What is Data Sheet /Specification
Sheet ?
• It is a document summarizing the performance
and technical characteristics of a product,
machine, electronic component, subsystem and
software in sufficient detail to be used by user.
What type of information we can
obtain from data sheet?
This is the document that the manufacturer provides telling
you :
-the typical device performance (electrical
characteristics, switching characteristics, and
recommended operating conditions (ROC))
-minimum and maximum requirements and
characteristics
-what you can do to the device without harming it
-suggested uses and hints
IC Series
•
In general computer chips or integrated circuits
follow the following format:
Line 1: Manufacturer's Name
Line 2: Part number
Line 3: date code, and other coded information
Example :
DM74LS00N
DM = Manufacturer Code
74 = Temperature Grade
Commercial grade: 0 °C to 70 °C (sometimes −10 °C to 70 °C)
Industrial grade: −40 °C to 85 °C (sometimes −25 °C to 85 °C)
(commercial/consumer electronics)
Military grade: −55 °C to 125 °C (sometimes -65 °C to 175 °C)
LS = Technology Code
00= Type of gate
N = Package Number
Datasheet Representations
1)
Recommended Operating Conditions
(ROC)
It specify power-supply voltage, input voltage ranges, DC output
loading, and temperature which the device is normally operated.
Example :
VCC, VDD = Power supply
VIH(min) =High-level input voltage
VIL(max) =Low-level input voltage
IOH = Current drawn from an output in the logical 1 state under
specified load condition
IOL = Current drawn from an output in the logical 0 state under
specified load condition
2) Electrical characteristics
It specify additional DC voltages and currents that are
observed at the device inputs and output when it is operated
under the recommended conditions.
Example :
VOH(min) = High-level output voltage.
VOL(max) =Low-level output voltage.
ICCH= Current drawn during High state
ICCL = Current drawn during Low state
IIH = The current that flows into an input when a
specified high-level voltage is applied to that input
IIL = The current that flows into an input when a
specified low-level voltage is applied to that input
3) Switching characteristics
It give maximum and typical propagation delays.
tpLH = Time between change in an input and a Low
to High change on the output.
tpHL = Time between change in an input and a High
to Low change on the output.
4) Absolute maximum ratings
Indicate the worst-case conditions for operating or
storing the device without damage.
Pop Quiz
A datasheet is the best place to find:
A. What voltage a part needs to run
B. How fast a part will run
C. How to communicate with a part
D. All of the above
