important to minimize adverse reactions and maximize efficacy. To obtain a better therapeutic response,
patients should understand their medication and cooperate with the treatment.

Effects of this medicine
This medicine inhibits carbonic anhydrase and increases the amount of oxygen in the blood, and consequently
improves acidosis, lowers intraocular pressure, suppresses epileptic seizure, relieves swelling by increasing urine
output, improves Meniere's syndrome, eases premenstrual syndrome, etc.
It is usually used for the treatment of glaucoma, epilepsy, respiratory acidosis in emphysema, cardiac edema, hepatic
edema, premenstrual syndrome, Meniere's disease and syndrome.
Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist
・If you ever experienced any allergic reaction (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicine.
If you are a patient with liver disorder or dysfunction, anuria, kidney disorder, hyperchloremic acidosis, adrenal
insufficiency, Addison's disease, glaucoma.
If you are decreased of sodium or potassium in body fluids.
・If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
・If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal
effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)
Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

・General dosage regimen:
For the treatment of glaucoma, for adults, take 250-1,000mg daily, in divided doses.
For the treatment of epilepsy, for adults, take 250-750mg daily, in divided doses.
For improvement of respiratory acidosis in emphysema, for the treatment of cardiac edema and hepatic edema, for
adults, take 250-500mg once daily.
For the treatment of premenstrual syndrome, for adults, take 125-375mg once daily, for 5-10 days before a
menstrual period begins or on the day that symptoms developed.
For the treatment of Meniere's disease and syndrome, for adults, take 250-750mg once daily.
The dosage may be adjusted according to the age or symptoms in any cases. Strictly follow the instructions of your
doctor/pharmacist.
・Take a dose as soon as possible when you remembered that you missed a dose. However, if it is almost time for the
next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT take double doses to make
up for the missed dose.
・If you took too much of the medicine (more than ordered), check with your doctor/pharmacist.
・Do not stop taking the medicine without the instructions of your doctor.
Precautions while taking this medicine
・You may feel dizziness/stagger. Do not drive a car, work at heights, or operate dangerous machinery while taking
this medicine.
Possible adverse reactions to this medicine
Common side effects are reported as below. If any of them occurs, check with your doctor/pharmacist: rash, fever,
paresthesia (numbness), frequent urination/polyuria, etc.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated
in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor
immediately.
・generalized fatigability, hands/feet tremor, hyperpnea(over breathing) [metabolic acidosis, electrolyte abnormality]
・facial pallor/flop sweat, breathing difficulty, hives [shock, anaphylactoid symptoms]
・fever, pharyngitis, flu-like symptom [aplastic anemia, hemolytic anemia, agranulocytosis]

・nasal bleeding, gum bleeding, increase in amount of menstrual bleeding, subcutaneous hemorrhage in the limbs, etc.
[thrombocytopenic purpura]
・fever, redness/sores of mucous membrane, erythema [Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis]
・decrease of urine output, swelling, hematuria [acute renal failure, nephrolithiasis, urolithiasis]
・difficulty in thinking, hallucination, spasmodically contracting in muscle [delirium, convulsion]
・generalized fatigability, nausea, yellowness in skin or conjunctiva [liver disorder, jaundice]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your
doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.
