Part 1 Directions: Use the materials given to create the moon phases in your teams. Draw in what your
“moon” looks like at each phase. Shade in where the moon looks dark. Hint: You must hold your
“moon” above eye level.

Part 2 Directions: Use the definitions below to fill in the labels for each moon phase. Use one term
from line one and one term from line two to make the label.
Line 1: Waxing: Getting bigger
First/Third: ½ left or right lit
Waning: Getting smaller
Line 2: Gibbous: ¾ of moon lit
Quarter: ½ moon lit
Crescent: ¼ moon lit
Ex: Waxing Gibbous
