What to Study for Plant Test:
1. Characteristics of all plants and general plant diversity – study plant diversity sheet
2. What is alternation of generations? How is the haploid different from the diploid?
3. From what did plants evolve? What to plants need to survive on land?
4. Four main groups - Bryophytes, (mosses), Ferns, Gymnosperms and Flowering Plants (study characteristics
that set each apart from the others) Study cladogram!
5. Vascular systems - Xylem and phloem – what does each carry and how do they differ in monocots and
dicots?
6. Compare mono and dicots - stems, roots, flowers, seeds and leaves
7. Flower notes and parts of flower (label), know female and male parts!
8. Study seed lab and know parts and functions
9. Allelopathy, tropisms, hormones and nastic movements, (going green) and ethnobotany
10. Roots, stems and leaves notes and lab – id pictures of each
11. Fruits – know 4 main types – simple fleshy, simply dry, aggregate, multiple and examples of each. How is a
pome different from a drupe? Be able to match a description or example to a fruit type.
12. Tree id – distinguish between compound and simple, alternate and opposite, lobed vs. unlobed, smooth vs.
toothed margins.
