Second Grade Math Essentials Students are expected to master the following math standards by the end of the second grade: Number and Operations in Base Ten (2.NBT) 1. 2. 3. 4. Read and write place value of 3-digit numbers. Compare 3-digit numbers based on hundreds, tens, and ones. Add and subtract numbers with/without regrouping of 3-digit numbers. Skip count by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s from any given number. Operations and Algebraic Thinking (2.0A) 1. Add and subtract numbers within 20 using mental strategies (facts). 2. Determine even and odd numbers up to 20 digits. 3. Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems. (Include problems dealing with money and measurement of length). 4. Use addition to find the total number of objects arranged in rectangular arrays up to 5 rows and 5 columns. Geometry (2.G) 1. Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes: triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes. 2. Partition rectangles and circles into halves, thirds, and fourths. Use mathematical vocabulary correctly. Measurement and Data (2.MD) 1. 2. 3. 4. Measure the length of an object and recognize the appropriate tool such as rulers, yardsticks, etc. Measure to determine how much longer one object is than another. Tell and write time from analog and digital clocks to the nearest 5 minutes using a.m. and p.m. Conduct surveys and organize data on picture graphs and bar graphs.
