Who is the winner of Young Package 2012?

The results for the 2012 Young Package Competition were announced on Thursday, May 31 at the
Prague Clubhouse NoD. Competitors worldwide submitted their works with the tea theme and
were awarded by financial and other awards.
Model Obaly Company announced the results for the 17th annual Young Package Competition intended
for young creators up to 30 years of age, worldwide. This year the popular competition has attracted
a record number of 855 participants from 41 countries. The jury met at the beginning of April and
consisted of Jan Činčera (Studio Činčera), Lukáš Fišárek (Oficina), Michal Richtr (Dynamo Design),
Yvonne Niewerth and Ondřej Eliáš (Designend).
This year´s theme was tea. Except for the theme, which changes annually, the focus on the paper
packages is important for competitors.
The topic was judged in two groups. In the category of university students and young designers up to
30 years of age, 460 creators applied. The winner was a pair of designers from Croatia, Katarina
Matković and Tihana Pecirko, who convinced the jury with their universal paper cup Only my cup
of tea, which enables tasting your every-day favourite tea in every moment. The winners were
awarded with the amount of 1200 € and other prizes donated by the competition partners. Except for
three winning places there was a special prize given, the Prize of Slovak Design Centre.
Already for the third time, the victory in the category of secondary schools goes to the Secondary
School of Applied Arts in Uherské Hradiště. Its student, Matěj Picek, won first place with his work
FruiTea.
Prizes for the category winners were presented by: Radovan Wicha, marketing manager of Model
Obaly Company and the initiator of the Young Package Competition, Jan Činčera, leading Czech
packaging designer and long-time competition chairman, and jury members such as graphic and
motion designer Lukáš Fišárek and industrial designer Ondřej Eliáš.
The financial reward (1200 €, 400 € and 300 € for the winners of the category of university students
and an additional 800 €, 200 € and 120 € for the winners of category of secondary school students)
was donated by Model Obaly Company, the competition promoter. The other prizes were donated by
the competition partners. Art and design books by Kant publisher, tea gift baskets by Pickwick
Company, vouchers for a photobank by Pixmac, subscription and gift baskets by Font publisher, books
and free tickets by the Museum of Decorative Arts, gift baskets and vouchers to the Prague´s bistro
Kidó, books and free entrances to the National Technical Museum, subscription for the magazine
Designum of Slovak Design Centre, and subscription for the magazine Packaging.
The exhibition for the best 64 works of the 17th annual Young Package competition may be seen
in the Galerie/CZD, Vojtěšská 3, Praha 1 from June 5 to June 22. The exhibition opening is being
held on June 4 at 6.00 p.m. It will then move to Satellite, the Slovakian Centre of Design in
Bratislava, where it will be open from August 1 to August 19.
The authors of the exhibition are designers from the group Mančaft: Lucie Smyslová, Michal Kukačka
and Jiří Toman. The graphic designer Radka Pitrmucová created the exhibition catalogue and the
paper trophy was created by Jan Činčera – each winner was provided with one. The catalogue and the
photographs of the winning entries can be downloaded on the competition website.
The 18th year of Young Package Competition will be announced in autumn 2012. All the information

Young Package is a competition that has been promoted by Model Obaly Company for seventeen
years. As of 2009, the project organizer has been CZECHDESIGN.CZ. Each year the Young Package
Competition follows original ideas in packaging design and it is intended for students and young
