Cloud notes Cloud - a collection of millions of tiny water droplets or ice crystals - form as warm air rises and cools - classified by form and altitude Cumulus - puffy, white cloud with a flat bottom - indicates fair weather - cumulonimbus o forms thunderstorms o these are large cumulus clouds Stratus - form in layers - cover large areas of the sky - Ex. fog - Nimbostratus o Dark stratus clouds that produce light to heavy, continuous rain Cirrus - Thin, feathery, white clouds at high altitude - If they get thick, expect a change in weather - Form when it’s windy Nimbus – this in the word means that type of cloud produces precipitation Cirro – this in the word means that type of cloud forms at high altitude Alto – this in the word means that type of cloud forms at middle altitudes
