1. What are the names of the two tribes that live in the Sahel? Describe some of the customs for
each tribe. - The Fulani is one of the tribe some of the Fulani’s customs are: they have a
religion called “palaaku”. Palaaku is a mixture of there love of cattle, reserve, and
stoicism. This is put into action when men have a ceremony in which young men hit each
other with walking sticks. Also palaaku comes in when 2 people get married the bride’s
father has to give the groom one of his cattle the other tribe is the Dogon tribe some of
their customs are: they have secret male societies in the center of the Dogon culture.
When boys turn 12 they are eligible enough to dance in religious rituals like the dama.
Dogon villages are laid out according to the plan of a human body. Village elders meet in a
building at the Village’s head.
2. List and describe a meal they eat.-most meals get jazzed up with sauces made from
vegetables and various meats like tomatoes, onions, eggplant and okra the very popular
groundnut stew with chicken is made with all kinds of herbs, spices, and vegetables. They

camel, reaches heights of 18 feet. Zebu: they are mostly used for milk; it was introduced
from India and Pakistan via East Africa. Warthog: Male tusks of warthogs are up to 23
inches long, it also migrates with the season. Senegal gerbil: it is the most common of the
mammals in the Sahel; it can grow about 4 to 6 inches long

tree that is found throughout the Sahel, one of the largest trees on the planet trunks are
often 50ft high and 85ft tall. Acacia: deep roots, feathery leaves to protect its bark from dry
winds, and blooms in yellow or white fuzzy flowers. Grewia Bicolor: a drought resistant
tree that favors rocky slopes, the trees fruit is eaten fresh or can be made into juice or
alcohol.
