Backgrounds of Western Literature, 1st Semester
Instructor: 陳建志 Albert Chen
Course description:
Greco-Roman mythology and the Bible are the two essential origins of western
culture. In the first semester we will focus on Greco-Roman mythology as well as
Greek tragedies. And if time permits, more other classic works such as Plato and
Greek comedies will be included. We will learn how they influenced western thinking
and literary works. Students are encouraged to point out mythological allusions in
literary works or films when doing presentations.
