THE AMAZING MATHEMATICAL
MYSTERY TOUR
You have been chosen to go on a magical
mathematical mystery tour.
On your journey you have to solve a series
of problems to find some clues. When you
have completed each puzzle successfully you
will be given a letter. These must be pieced
together to solve this riddle:
My spells are ingenious, I’m clever and wise!
If you find my home, you may well get a
prize!
Before your journey:
There are 5 envelopes each with two
different digit cards numbered from 0-9.
The sum of the cards is written on each
envelope.

Which 2 cards are inside the 8 envelope?
Is it 6 & 2, 0 & 8 or 5 & 3?
Trail through the wood:
You must find a route through the wood. The
wood is divided into 36 squares, 6 wide and 6
deep. Each of the squares is numbered to show
how many trees are in it. You can travel any way
through the wood but you must count the number
of trees in the squares you go through. Find a
path with the fewest trees.

The River:
You have to cross the river, there are different
coloured stepping stones set out in a repeating
pattern blue, orange, purple, green, yellow, red,
blue, orange…….
Clue 4 will be found under the 36th stone, what
colour is it?
The Wizard’s Gate:
There is a grid on the wizard’s gate with the
numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9. These numbers
need to be placed on the grid so that both the
horizontal, diagonal and vertical lines add up to
15. Which number goes in the middle?
The Wizard’s wardrobe:
The wizard has 3 different coloured hats, green,
blue and purple, 3 different coloured cloaks,
green, blue and purple and 3 different coloured
wands, green, blue and purple.
How many different outfits does the wizard
have?
The Wizard’s breakfast:
The wizard likes 5 slices of toast for his
breakfast. There is only room on the grill to
toast one side of two slices of bread in two
minutes. How long will it take to grill the wizard’s
toast?
The Wizard’s rabbits:
The wizard has some pet rabbits that help him
out with his spells. They are kept in hutches. If 7
rabbits are put in each rabbit hutch, one rabbit
is left over. If 9 rabbits are put in each hutch,
one hutch is left empty.
Can you find how many rabbits and how many
hutches there are?
