Infectious Bursal Disease , M .B. Intermediate strain,
Lyophilized live v accine in vials
Description
This vaccine is a freeze-dried live attenuated virus of Infectious Bursal Disease
(IBDV) produced in SPF em bryonated chick en eggs . The M.B. vaccine strain is
an intermediate virus
Indications
M.B. vaccine is used for the immunization of healthy breeder, layer and broiler
chickens against Gumboro Disease.
Since m aternal antibodies against IBDV neutralize live Gum boro vaccines,
chicks should be vaccinated in consideration of their maternal antibody leve l
(please consult with your Phibro Vaccine rep). A single dose vaccination is
usually enough for immunization of broilers slaughtered at 6-8 week s of age.
M.B. vaccine is also used as prim er for inactivated Gumboro vaccines in layers
and breeders.
Dosage and Administration
Reconstitute the vaccine with water according to the instructions provided in
the leaflet. Always use clean, de -chlorinated drink ing water. For de-chlorination
use skimmed milk powder 5g/liter; 50m l/liter of sk im milk; or a chem ical
chlorine neutralizer preparation. Consult your veterinarian as to the proper
vaccination program.
Administration via drinking w ater
Reconstitute the vaccine with cool , de-chlorinated tap water. W hen
reconstituted, the vaccine shall be diluted in an adequate qu antity of final dechlorinated drink ing water as followed:
a. Birds 8 days to 3 week s of age – 5-10liters/1000 doses.
b. Birds 4-8 week s of age – 20 liter/1000 doses.
c. Birds 8 weeks of age or older – 40 liters/1000 doses.
This method should not be used before chicks have learned to drink properly
(3-4 day-old).Each bird should drink an appropriate amount of water to receive
sufficient vaccine. Thirst birds by stopping water supply 1 to 2 hours before
vaccination.
For best results, it is advisable to vaccinate earl y in the m orning and to use
cold water.
Administration via Eye Drop
Reconstitute the vaccine with cool de -chlorinated water
Important: T he exact amount of water depends on the type of dropper being
used; calibrate your dropper to deliver one dose per drop .
After reconstitution, the vaccine should be k ept under chilled condition and
immediately used. Maximum time between preparation and end of use should
not exceed 2 hours at room temperature .
Hold the chick pressed gently in one hand, allow 1 drop to fall into the
eye/nose, release the pressure to induce swallowing of the drop. M ake sure that
the vaccine is swallowed befor e releasing the chicken.
Reduce stress of handling by vaccinating early in the m orning under cool
conditions.
Precautions
 Do not vaccinate chickens under 8 days of age
 Stop any treatm ent or disinfection of drink ing water 24 hours before
vaccination.
 W ater and drinkers should be cleaned with no traces of disinfectants.
 Mak e sure that enough drink ers are available so that all birds may have
access to water at the same time.
 Do not heat the water containing the vaccine.
 The reconstituted vaccine should be used immediately.
 Mak e sure that vaccine solution i s consumed within 2-3 hours.
 Do not start water supply again before all vaccine has been consumed.
 Do not use damaged vials.
