Instructions: Read the following passages or statements with your partner. From what
you read and discuss, look at pages 44 - 46 to determine which amendment(s) the passage
or statement is describing.

Read the following passage and determine which amendments the passage is referring to.
The Civil War was fought between 1861 and 1865. It was fought between the Union
States of the North and the Confederate States of the South. President Abraham Lincoln’s
responsibility was to uphold the Constitution and to preserve the Union of the United
States. The main issue of the Civil War between the states was that of slavery. The Union
States were against slavery and the Confederate states were in favor. In the end, the
Union States were the victors of the Civil War. Soon after the war, three post-Civil War
Amendments were passed by Congress. Looking at pages 44-46, list and describe each of
the post-Civil War Amendments:
