Empowered By the Holy Spirit for Missions

ACTS 2:1-13
"1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in
one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing
mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there
appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other
tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. " (Acts 2:1-4 NKJV)
The power of the Holy Spirit is given to the church to have
breakthroughs in world evangelization. He has given us power
commensurate with the greatness of the task. What happens
when God's Spirit moves in and through a church?
THE COMING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT:
1. Marked the Birth of the CHURCH
 In God’s timetable- Pentecost around 33AD, Jerusalem.
On the Feast of Harvest, 3,000 souls were harvested that
day!
 In God’s Redemptive Plan- He uses the Church to spread
the Gospel to the world
Pentecost- commemorates the Feast of the Harvest, and the giving of the mosaic law
on the 50th day after the Exodus. In God's sovereign timetable, the Holy Spirit was
given to the church 50 days after the Passover.
2. Fulfilled Christ's Promise
 He came “suddenly”- John 7:37; 16: 7; 17: 21; Luke
24:49; Acts 1:8
 Something extra-ordinary happened: Wind, fire, miracle of
languages, powerful witnessing, great harvest.
3. Empowered the Church for a Powerful Witness
The Holy Spirit came on Pentecost to empower the Church for
missions:
 Baptize believers joining them into Christ’s Body
 Fill believers for a powerful testimony
“Men ought to seek with their whole hearts to be filled with the Spirit of God. Without
being filled with the Spirit, it is utterly impossible that an individual Christian or a church
can ever live or work as God desires.” Andrew Murray
Explanation:
"What indeed is this?" (2:11)
Baptism of the Holy Spirit- is an act of God whereby His Spirit
takes a believer and places him in the body of Christ at salvation
(Gal 3:27; 1 Cor 12:13; Jn 14: 16; 1 Cor 6:19-20)
Filling of the Holy Spirit- is the total domination of the Holy Spirit
over your life. You are filled with the Spirit when you yield to Him
every area of your life: mind, will, body, time, talents, treasures.
No unconfessed sin, no self will, no self effort (Eph 5:18).

One baptism many fillings!
Effects:
 Unity
 Passionate praise and witness
 Great harvest of souls
Challenge:
1. Pray earnestly for a great move of the Holy Spirit:
 Genuine repentance and cleansing (brokenness, holy fear of
God)
 Spirit of fervent prayers to fill us
 Loving unity in the body of Christ
 Passion for missions
 Thousands of workers called into ministry and missions-each living in the fullness of the Holy Spirit
 Genuine conversions to Christ
“I bow my knee unto the Father... that he would grant you... to be strengthened with might
by the Spirit” (Eph 3:14,16)
2. Ask God to fill you with His Spirit right now. Claim His power
as you serve and witness.
Dear Father, I need You. I hunger and thirst for a more vital relationship
with You. I admit that I have been in control of my life. As a result, I have
sinned against You. Thank You for forgiving my sins through Christ's
death on the cross for me. I now confess and turn from my sins and
surrender the control of my life to the Lord Jesus. By faith I invite You to
fill me with the Holy Spirit as You commanded me to be filled. You
promised to fill me if I ask according to Your will. I pray this in the
authority of the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Gawa 2:1-13
"1 Nang sumapit ang araw ng Pentecostes, nagkatipon silang lahat sa isang
lugar. 2 At biglang narinig ang isang ugong mula sa langit, animo’y isang malakas
na hagunot ng hangin, at napuno ang bahay na kinaroroonan nila 3 May nakita
slang wari’y mga dilang apoy na lumapag sa bawat isa sa kanila.4 At silang lahat
ay napuspos ng Espiritu Santo at nagsalita ng iba’t ibang wika, ayon sa
ipinagkaloob sa kanila ng Espiritu. "(Gawa 2:1-4 TPV)
Ipinagkaloob sa Iglesya ang Banal na Espiritu upang magtagumpay sa pagmimisyon. Sinangkapan sila ng kapangyarihan sapat
upang matupad ang Dakilang Atas. Ano ang mangyayari kapag
kumikilos ang Espiritu ng Diyos sa Iglesya?
ANG PAGDATING NG BANAL NA ESPIRITU:

 Sa panahon ng Diyos- Pentecostes 33AD, Jerusalem
 Sa plano ng pagliligtas ng Diyos
Pentecostes- pagdiriwang ng Pista ng Anihan, at pagbibigay ng sampung utos sa ika50 araw pagkatapos ng Exodo. Ito rin ang itinakdang araw ng Diyos upang
ipagkaloob Niya sa Iglesya ang Banal na Espiritu ika-50 araw pagkatapos ng
Passover.

 Bautismo sa Espiritu
 Pagpuspos ng Espiritu
“Dapat nating hangarin ng buong puso na mapuspos ng Espiritu ng Diyos. Kung hindi
mapupuspos ng Espiritu, imposibleng ang isang Cristiyano o isang Iglesya na
makapamuhay o makapaglingkod ayon sa nais ng Diyos.” Andrew Murray
"Ano ang ibig sabihin nito?" (2:12)
a) Bawtismo sa Espiritu- Gawain ng Diyos na ang isang
mananampalatayang naligtas ay inilalagay ng Espiritu sa Katawan
ni Cristo (Gal 3:27; 1 Cor 12:13; Jn 14: 16; 1 Cor 6:19-20).
b) Pagpuspos ng Espiritu- ganap na pagkontrol ng Banal na
Espiritu sa iyong buhay. Ikaw ay napupuspos ng Espiritu kapag
ipinasakop mo sa Espiritu ang bawat bahagi ng iyong buhay:
kalooban, isip, katawan, panahon, talento, kayamanan. Walang
kasalanang hindi isinusuko, walang pansariling kalooban, walang
pagtitiwala sa sariling kakayanan (Efe 5:18).

Hamon:
1. Marubdob na ipanalangin ang pagkilos ng Banal na Espiritu:
 Tunay na pagsisisi
 Mapuspos ng Espiritu ng pananalangin
 Pagmamahalan at pagkakaisa sa Katawan ni Cristo
 Maalab na pagmimisyon
 Libu-libong manggagawa na tatawagin sa pagmimisyonbawat isa’y puspos ng Espiritu
 Tunay na Cristiyano
“Ako’y naninikluhod sa Ama...na palakasin niys ang inyong buhay espirituwal sa
pamamagitan ng kanyang Espiritut” (Efeso3:14,16)
2. Hilingin sa Diyos na puspusin ka Niya ng Espiritu ngayon
Minamahal kong Ama, kailangan ko po Kayo. Nauuhaw ako sa higit na
malapit na kaugnayan sa Inyo. Inaamin ko pong buhay ko’y kontrolado
ng aking sarili, kaya ako’y nagkasala na Inyo. Salamat sa pagpapatawad
mo sa akin sa pamamagitan ng kamatayan ni Cristo sa krus. Pinagsisisihan ko’t tinatalikdan ang aking mga kasalanan at isinusuko ko ang aking
buhay sa Inyong pagkontrol. Puspusin po Ninyo ako ng Inyong Banal na
Espiritu ayon sa Inyong ipinag-utos. Sa Pangalan ni Jesus, Amen.
