Orestes
Agamemnon sacrifices Iphigenia to get wind for his ships to sail to war with Troy and his brother Menalaus
Agamemnon wins the war and comes home
While Agamemnon was gone his wife Clytemnestra had an affair with Aegisthus (Agamemnon’s cousin)
Aegisthus had an affair with Clytemnestra to get back at Agamemnon --- because Agamemnons father
Atreus killed the children (all except Aegisthus) of his brother Thyestes and served them to him for dinner.
Since Atreus and Thyestes are dead, the blame for Atreus’ sin transfers to Agamemnon.
Clytemnestra with the help of Aegisthus kill Agamemnon and Cassandra
Two major Greek laws: You by law must avenge your father if he is murdered. You may under no
circumstance kill your mother. Orestes is bound by both laws.
Electra talks Orestes into killing Clytemnestra and Aegisthus.
