Hypothalmus- brain area
 Produces hormones that are released from the pituitary gland
 Most are regulatory hormones
Pituitary- “master gland”
 Releases many hormones
 Many of its hormones control other glands
 Has 2 regions (anterior-glandular tissue; posterior neural tissue
 Both regions have blood supplies that hormones are released into
Posterior pituitary
 Releases 2 hormones (from neurons in the hypothalamus)
 Antidiuretic hormone (ADH)
o Acts on kidney collecting ducts
o Increases H2o channels  increase H2o reabsorption
o Triggered by :
 Too much salt in blood (increase osmolarity)
 Low blood pressure . decrease blood volume
