Formative assessment: Prime Factorization Display
Lesson EQ: What role does the number 1 have when finding the prime factors of
any number?
Supplies: construction paper, die/number cube, ruler
Steps:
1.
Student should roll the number cube twice and record the two digit number
they create.
2.
Students should find the prime factorization of their created number.
3.
They should display the factorization in two ways: a factor tree and the
prime factorization using exponents.
4.
Students should make a display that exhibits their work. Use a straight
edge!
5.
Students should repeat this process for a three digit number and answer
the following questions on the display:

How can you prove that the prime factorization that you have listed is
correct?
2.
What role did the number one have when finding the factors of your
numbers?
