MITOSIS BOOKLET
OBJECTIVE: Construct a book with information about the process of cell division.
DIRECTIONS: Follow each step below exactly to construct your book.
Front Cover: Decorate/design the cover. Be sure to include your name and a title.
Inside Front Cover: leave blank
Page 1:
Front:
 Draw and color a chromosome.
 Label the sister chromatids and the centromere.
Back:
 Title this page, “The Cell Cycle”.
 Do the following:
1) Tell what the cell cycle is in a complete sentence.
2) Copy and answer the following question:
“What phase does the cell spend a majority of the cell cycle in?”
Page 2:
Front:
 Title this page “The Cell Cycle”.
 Sketch a Cell Cycle pie chart.
 Correctly label the parts of the Cell Cycle.
 Color the G1 phase red, the S phase blue, and the G2 green. Next color mitosis orange
and cytokinesis yellow.
Back:
 Title this page the “Phases of Mitosis”
1) Define mitosis using complete sentences.
2) List the names of the four phase of mitosis in the correct order.
Page 3:
Front:
 Title this page “Interphase”.
 Sketch a cell in Interphase using the following color code:
o Color the chromatin red.
o Color the inside of the nucleus yellow
o Color the cytoplasm blue.
 Label the chromatin, nucleus, nuclear envelope and cytoplasm.
 Write a brief description of what happens during G1, S, G2.
Back:
 Title this page “Prophase”.
 Sketch a cell in Prophase using the following color code:
o Color the chromosomes red
o Color the inside of the nucleus yellow
o Color the cytoplasm blue.
 Label the following: chromosomes, nuclear envelope, spindle fibers.
 Write a brief description of prophase.
Page 4:
Front:
 Title this page “Metaphase”.
 Sketch a cell in metaphase using the following color code:
o Color the chromosomes red
o Color the cytoplasm blue
 Label the chromosomes and spindle fibers.
 Write a brief description of metaphase.
Back:
 Title this page “Anaphase”.
 Sketch a cell in anaphase using the following color code:
o Color the chromosomes red
o Color the cytoplasm blue
 Label the chromosomes and the spindle fibers.
 Write a brief description of anaphase.
Page 5:
Front:
 Title this page “Telophase”.
 Sketch a cell in telophase using the following color code.
o Color the chromosomes red
o Color the inside of the nucleus yellow.
o Color the cytoplasm blue
 Label the chromosomes, nucleus, and nuclear envelope, and cytoplasm.
 Write a brief description of telophase.
Back:
 Label this page “Cytokinesis in an Animal Cell”.
 Sketch a cell in cytokinesis using the following color code:
o Color the chromosomes/chromatin red
o Color the inside of the nucleus yellow
o Color the cytoplasm blue
 Label the cleavage furrow, nucleus, and the chromatin.
 Write a brief description of cytokinesis in an animal cell.
Page 6:
Front:
 Title this page “Mitosis”.
 Write a few sentences describing the end result of mitosis. Be sure to address the
following:
1) Difference in the number of cells at the beginning & end of mitosis?
2) Compare the number of chromosomes in the each cell at the beginning &
end of mitosis.
3) What is the purpose of mitosis?
Back:
