Accelerated Algebra 2 This course reviews and extends the concepts of Accelerated Algebra 1 by going into more depth in studying equations, inequalities, problem solving, factoring, irrational numbers, linear equations and simultaneous equations. New topics include the study of polynomial, quadratic, radical, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions. Also covered in this course are matrices, linear regression lines, scatterplot graphs, sequences and series, and statistics and probability. A graphing calculator is required for this course. The TI-83/84 or TI-84 Plus are recommended. Major Topics Chapter 1 – Chapter 2 – Chapter 3 – Chapter 4 – Chapter 5 – Chapter 6 – Chapter 7 – Chapter 8 – Chapter 9 – Chapter 10 – Chapter 11 – Chapter 15 – Basic Concepts of Algebra Inequalities Linear Equations and Functions Products and Factors of Polynomials Rational Expressions Irrational and Complex Numbers Quadratic Equations and Functions Variation and Polynomial Equations Analytical Geometry Exponents and Logarithmic Functions Sequences and Series Statistics and Probability Grades Grades are based on quizzes, tests, homework, and classwork. Work is returned to students for them to keep in their notebooks. Quizzes and test will be returned to keep in a timely manner except for the midterm, final exam, and any other district assessments. Students may come after school to review midterms and finals. Students can calculate their grade at any given time by dividing total points earned by total possible points. Homework Homework is assigned on a regular basis and reviewed in class. Frequent reviewing of material is important. All work is to be shown on each homework assignment. Written homework is not the only assignment. Students should frequently review material from earlier sections and previous tests and quizzes. Clinic Clinic is held in Room 356W from 2:15 until 3:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and other days by appointment. Extra help does not replace regular classroom instruction. If a student is absent, it is his/her responsibility to get the missing notes and assignment from another classmate. After reading the section(s) in the book, reviewing the notes, and attempting the problems he/she should seek clarification after school. Parents are asked to encourage their child to seek extra help when needed. Calculators Graphing calculators are an important part of this class and are used regularly. However, misuse of calculators will not be tolerated. There are sections that require us to assess without the aid of a calculator due to the concepts being tested. Absence Policy Please see the student handbook for the Council Rock High School absence policy. Students who are absent more than 20 days may be denied credit for this course.
