Drugs & Side Effects on Me
Benicar HCT- a combination of an angiotensin II receptor antagonist and a thiazide diuretic.

Causes heartburn, diarrhea, joint pain, spinning sensation, headache, or dry cough. Acid Base Problem
with Low Chloride and Basic pH Blood, Imbalance in Body Salts like Potassium and Sodium, Low Amount
of Potassium in the Blood. Backache, Flu-Like Symptoms, Head PainLess. High Amount of Triglyceride in
the BloodLess. High Blood Sugar. Inflammation of the Nose. Low Energy. Sinus Irritation and Congestion.
Potassium Chloride ER - mineral supplement/electrolyte replenisher.
Causes gas.
Furosemide/Lasix - a strong diuretic
Treatment with "water pills"/diuretics can lower potassium in the blood causing higher blood pressure.
Causes increased urination, thirst, muscle cramps, itching or rash, weakness, dizziness, spinning
sensation, general feeling of tiredness or weakness, lower back or side pain, shortness of breath. Serious
side effects of Lasix include dehydration, fever, electrolyte abnormalities. Imbalance in Body Salts like
Potassium and Sodium, Low Amount of Calcium in the Blood, Low Amount of Chloride in the Blood, Low
Amount of Magnesium in the Blood, Low Amount of Potassium in the Blood, Low Amount of Sodium in
the Blood, Blurred Vision. Drowsiness. Dry Mouth. Acute Inflammation of the Pancreas. Liver Problems.
High Blood Sugar. Causes potassium loss, nausea, vomiting, weakness.
Hydralazine - a vasodilating agent.
Causes lower back pain, shortness of breath. clumsiness or unsteadiness, chills. Trembling or shaking of
the hands or feet. Unusual tiredness or weakness. Renal damage. Glomerulonephritis [acute
inflammation of the kidney]. Causes nausea.
Note: Don’t stop taking hydralazine suddenly. Doing so may lead to uncontrolled high blood pressure. It
can raise your risk for heart problems, such as chest pain or heart attack. If you need to stop taking this
drug, your doctor will slowly lower your dose over two weeks.

Plavix - (clopidogrel bisulfate) is a thienopyridine class of drug that inhibits platelet aggregation and
thus inhibits aspects of blood clotting.
Causes problems with vision, joint pain, liver failure, arthritis, muscle pain.
Lopressor (Metoprolol) - a selective beta-adrenoreceptor blocking agent; beta blocker; beta-adrenergic
blocker.
Causes joint pain, arthritis, dry mouth, gas, edema in legs and feet, weight gain. bradycardia, cardiac
failure. Causes nausea, fatigue, decreased ability to exercise, elevated blood triglycerides.
Lipitor (Atorvastatin Calcium) - a group of drugs called HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, or "statins."
Atorvastatin reduces levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides in the
blood, while increasing levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL). Lipitor is used to
treat high cholesterol, and to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, or other heart complications in
people with type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, or other risk factors.
Causes pain, joint pain, urinary tract infections, blockage of normal bile flow, muscle damage due to
autoimmunity, muscle problems, burping, gas, high blood sugar, low energy, muscle weakness, not
feeling well.
Nifedipine - calcium channel blocker. It works by relaxing the muscles of your heart and blood vessels.
Causes feeling weak, edema in legs and feet, cough, frequent urination, itching, joint stiffness, low
energy, trouble breathing, joint pain, arthritis, burping, difficulty swallowing, dry mouth, enlarged
breasts, feeling faint, high blood sugar, muscle weakness and pain, problems with eyesight. Causes
dizziness, nausea, edema.
Medications which cause weight gain:
Metoprolol (Lopressor)
Antidepressants (Cymbalta?)
Antihistamines, such as cetirizine (Zyrtec) and fexofenadine (Allegra)
Novolog, Lantus
Beta blockers can cause sudden or rapid weight gain
Benadryl
