Name: Date: Subject: Plate Boundary Examples Objectives Objective 1: ASWBAT identify examples of each of three types of plate boundaries from around the world. On a scale of 1 – 3 how well you can do on this objective now. (1 – Not at all 2 – I know it a little bit 3 – I know it very well) Highlight your choice. Objective: 1 1 2 3 Key Vocabulary Words On a scale of 1 – 3 how well you know the vocabulary words below. What is the theory of plate tectonics? Answer: 2. What do we call the “giant puzzle pieces” that the Earth’s crust is made of? Answer: Action! - Use the link below and view the animations to review the different types of plate boundaries. We call this boundary the San Andreas Fault. This fault line is the cause of all the earthquakes that California experiences today. The plates on this boundary are not pulling away from each other or colliding into each other. Instead they are grinding along side each other. This type of fault line is called a transform boundary. San Andreas Fault Ariel View Point Reyes is a geological feature was created because of this plate movement. The park itself sits on the pacific plate and the land to the East is on the North American Plate. Answer: Action! – Using the Internet, find another example of a transform boundary that exists in the world and answer the following questions. 2. What is another example of a major transform boundary in the world? Answer: Convergent Boundary The Himalayan Mountains The place where the Indian Plate and Eurasian plate collide is a major convergent boundary. The result of the collision is the largest mountains in the world. The largest peak, Mt. Everest, is in this mountain range and it is over 29,000 feet tall. The collision of the plates forces the Eurasian plate to buckle and it is forced upwards. Action! – Using the following link view the animation of the Himalayas forming. Answer: Action! – Using the Internet, find another example of a convergent boundary that exists in the world and answer the following questions. 2. What is another example of a major convergent boundary in the world? Answer: Divergent Boundary The African Plate The African plate is one of the world’s major plates. Today however, it is being torn apart. Running down the middle of East Africa through the countries of Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania. This boundary is called a divergent boundary. This boundary has created what is called the Great Rift Valley. It is a valley that is created in the rift of this divergent boundary. Someday millions of years from now there will be an ocean where this rift is forming. The Great Rift Valley 1. What is an example of a major divergent boundary in the world? Answer: Action! – Using the Internet, find another example of a divergent boundary that exist in the world and answer the following questions. 2. What is another example of a major divergent boundary in the world? Answer: Quiz Directions: Answer the following questions to see if you met the objectives. 1. Where can we find a transform boundary in the world? Answer: 2. Where can we find a convergent boundary in the world? Answer: 3. Where can we find a divergent boundary in the world? Answer:
