Unit 1 Power Point CP Earth/Space Science HS-ESS1-2. I can construct an explanation of the Big Bang theory based on astronomical evidence of light spectra, motion of distant galaxies, and composition of matter in the universe. Directions - In a Power Point, you are to develop slides for each of the outlined statements below. Your power point should be at least 8 slides. Include one picture or figure for each idea. The first slide needs to be a title page that includes your first and last name, and class period. The last page should be a bibliography page. You need to save your power point to Mr. Brierly’s folder on the teacher commons drive. Utilize the textbook, pages 838-842 to write your content. Make yourself a print-out of the powerpoint. Make sure you print 6slides per sheet. Put these into the notes section of your notebinder. A. What are Binary Stars? 1) How do most of them appear from Earth? 2) How are Astonomers able to identify them? B. What are Doppler Shifts? 1) Compare/Contrast blueshift and redshift. 2) How does speed affect it? C. What are two units of measure for long stellar distances? D Describe the apparent shift in position caused by motion of the observer (parallax). 1) What is the maximum distance using parallax and still maintain accuracy? 2) Describe the motion of the observer as their standing on Earth. E. The basic properties of a star are mass, diameter, and luminosity, which are all related to each other. 1) Describe apparent magnitude. a. What rankings numbers are given to them? b. How does brightness relate to each of the ranked numbers? 2) Describe absolute magnitude. a. How does it defer from apparent magnitude? b. What is a disadvantage of absolute magnitude? 3) What is luminosity? a. How do you measure it? b. What is it dependant upon? c. What is its unit of measurement?
