Class Schedule
3/2-3/6
Monday 3/2: Map Work—Europe.
Tuesday 3/3: We will go over the East Asia Test.
Wednesday 3/4: Map Work—Europe.
 READ/REVIEW the physical geography notes that you received in class on Monday so
that you have some knowledge about the physical geography of Europe. It will help you
while you work on your maps!
EQ: How did geography impact the development of early civilizations in the
Mediterranean Basin?
Thursday 3/5: Discussion European physical geography.
 No new reading, but the Europe map is pretty extensive so it would be a good idea to get
some work done at home if you didn’t finish it in class.
EQ: What were the major achievements of the Minoan and Mycenaean Civilizations?
Friday 3/6: Topic for Discussion—BRONZE Age European Civilizations: Minoans and
Mycenaeans
Reading in Text—p. 72-73 (about the Minoans) and 5.1 (p. 123-126)
 Take thorough SPRITE+G (don’t forget to add and highlight vocabulary in your
notes) notes from the book first on the Minoans and then on the Mycenaeans!
 Then add to your already excellent SPRITE notes from the handouts given to you in
class. This will give you several sources of information on the Minoans and on the
Mycenaeans (separately!!)
NOTE—Europe Map Quiz will be on Wednesday 3/18

Monday 3/9: Video—Aegean Civilizations. No new reading for today. Finish and STUDY your
maps!!! Review the vocabulary related to the Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations!

Tuesday 3/10 & Wednesday 3/11: Topic for Discussion—The Rise of the Classical Greek CityStates
Reading in Text for Tuesday—Ch. 5, Section 2; p. 127-133.
 Take notes paying attention to developments related to the SPRITE themes (and to
vocabulary). AFTER we have completed our entire study of the Classical Greeks, we
will go back and review the themes overall for the entire period.
No new reading for Wednesday—review!! Study maps!!
Thursday 3/6: Topic for Discussion—Athens’ “Golden Age”
Reading in Text—Ch. 5, Section 3; p. 134-141.
 See Tuesday/Wednesday regarding notes!
EQ: What were the major achievements of the Hellenistic (Alexander’s) Empire?
Friday 3/7: Topic for Discussion—Hellenistic Greece
Reading in Text—Ch. 5, Sections 4 & 5; p. 142-149.
 Same as above goes for the reading!!
REMEMBER—expect a vocab quiz on Greece BEFORE Wednesday! And a unit test is
possible by the end of next week (at the latest EARLY in the week of the following
week)….review regularly

assignments for last week and complete ALL of them! Bring all your notes to class

 No new reading….review, review, review!!! Maps, Vocab, Everything!
Wednesday 3/18: Map Quiz—Europe
If you prepare….this should be a grade helper!!!

Reading in Text—Chapter 6, Section 1
 Read before you come to class on Thursday and take SPRITE+G thematic notes. The
book isn’t quite as clear as it needs to be, but it’s a good starting point. We will clarify,
discuss, and elaborate in class!

Note—Since I gave you time to work on homework in class on Friday and you don’t have
any new reading scheduled until Wednesday…those of you who DID NOT learn what you
should have about Greece need to CATCH UP!!! Don’t waste the opportunity!! Make sure
that you have learned about Greece and review the info in Chapter 6, section 1 and 2 about
Rome.
Note #2—Unit Test is coming--looks like it will be on Thursday 4/2. Start reviewing
YESTERDAY!!!!
Monday 3/23: Topic for Discussion—Rome: Impact of Geography and the Development of the
Republic and the Early Roman Republic
 No new reading if you’ve already read 6.1 and 6.2
EQ: How/Why did the republican government turn into a dictatorship?
Tuesday 3/24: Topic for Discussion—Think about these questions for discussion on Tuesday—
How/Why did the republican government of Rome turn into a dictatorship? What were the
social, political, and economic aspects of the Roman Empire (note—the text is REALLY weak
on Roman religion before the rise of Christianity and the intellectual and technological
achievements of the Romans are detailed in 6.5)
Wednesday 3/25: Topic for Discussion—Intellectual and Technological Achievements of Rome
Reading in Text—Chapter 6, Section 5
Thursday 3/26: DVD—Roman City
 No new reading….review, review, review. Then review some more! Don’t forget to
review Minoans, Mycenaean’s, Hellenic Greece and Hellenistic Greece!
EQ: What are the origins and key beliefs and practices of Christianity?
Friday 3/27: Topic for Discussion—Religion and the Romans
