Review:
Sets of numbers you’ve already studied:
Natural numbers (also called the counting
numbers)
{1, 2, 3, 4, …}
Whole numbers
{0, 1, 2, 3, 4, …}
Lesson concepts:
A. Integer – a positive or negative
whole number. (p.56)
Integers = {…,-3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, …}
 Zero is neither positive or negative
B. Comparing integers – the integer
farther to the right on the
horizontal number is greater
Inequality – any mathematical sentence
that contains < or >. (p. 57)
 It is used to compare integers
Ex 1,
–4 < –2
–7 < 9
11 > –11
C. Absolute value – is the distance a
number is from zero on the number
line.
 The symbol for absolute value is
 Absolute value is always positive
since you are counting how far away
a number is from zero on the number
line.
