1What are the updates to the CCR program?Several aspects of the CCR program will
change due to this update. They are as follows:
Change minimum requirements for Education PDUs (to 60% overall)Transition from
self-directed to directed learning in three skill areas (Technical Project Management,
Leadership, Strategic and Business Management) identified by employers as critical
skillsCreate minimum PDUs in each of the three employer identified skill areas outlined
in the PMI Talent TriangleChange the maximum PDU requirement for activities focused
on giving back to the professionImprove the current online CCR system so that it is
easier to use
2Why are these updates being made to the CCR program?Extensive market research and
feedback from certification holders and organizations identified skill areas employers
need now and in the future from project practitioners to deliver better results. These skills
are represented in the PMI Talent Triangle. The CCR updates align professional
development activities, specifically Education activities, with the PMI Talent Triangle.
The major objectives of this project:
Elevate the global recognition and value of PMI certificationsEnhance the value of
project management within the workplaceStrengthen the CCR program around
professional development by introducing the PMI Talent Triangle skill areas to the
Education portion of the CCRCreate consistency with promoting professional
developmentImprove the online CCR system used for recording educational courses and
PDUs
3How will the CCR program updates impact certification holders? The CCR program
updates increases the minimum number of Education PDUs for each certification holder.
It also directs the Education activities by aligning them with the three skill areas of the
PMI Talent Triangle. Education PDUs are as follows:
4How will the CCR program updates impact R.E.P.s?As noted, the CCR program
updates increases the minimum number of Education PDUs for all certification holders
while offering certification holders direction for professional development in the three
skill areas of the PMI Talent Triangle. As a PMI R.E.P.S., you:
■Are required to align your existing courses with the three PMI Talent Triangle skill
areas.
■Have the chance to expand your educational offerings to meet all three skill areas of the
PMI Talent Triangle
5What opportunities will the CCR program updates provide R.E.P.s?With the program
updates, there is potential for the following opportunities:
■Increase demand for training.
■Increase your market share by developing a variety of learning opportunities to meet the
requirements of the PMI Talent Triangle skill areas.
■Updates to the online CCR system include a more “Google” like search feature that will
provide more accurate and relevant results for certification holders looking for classes,
and may provide you with more valid leads.
6How are the three skill areas of the PMI Talent Triangle defined? The PMI Talent
Triangle outlines the three skill areas employers need. They are as follows:
Technical Project Management: Knowledge, skills and behaviors related to specific
practice domains.
Leadership: Knowledge, skills and behaviors specific to leadership-oriented skills that
help an organization achieve its business goals.
Strategic and Business Management: Knowledge of and expertise in the industry or
organization that enhances performance and better delivers business outcomes.
7What are examples of courses that align to each of the skill areas of the PMI Talent
Triangle?Technical Project Management: Examples are: Advanced project management,
Techniques to improve your WBS, How to gather and document requirements, Risk
management for your portfolio.
Leadership: Examples are: negotiation, communication, motivation, problem solving, and
conflict resolution, etc.
Strategic and Business Management: Examples are: product knowledge, industry
knowledge, business acumen, innovation strategy alignment, market strategy alignment,
differentiation strategy alignment, customer strategy alignment, finance, marketing, etc.
8When will CCR program updates go into effect for credential holders?Updates to the
CCR program and the online CCR system will go into effect in December 2015.
9What do R.E.P.s need to do to prepare for the CCR program update? Here are some
ongoing or time-sensitive tasks you can complete to prepare for the CCR program
updates.
Stay tuned to your email as the R.E.P. program team will be directing R.E.P.s in the
coming weeks to clean up their directory of activities and will provide the necessary
instructions and aids. To view this information please visit the R.E.P. archive library
where the Step by Step Instructions and FAQs can be found under the header “2015
R.E.P. eBlasts & Announcements”.Attend an informational webinar by visiting the
training tab (ongoing). Align your current courses with the PMI Talent Triangle in the
updated online CCR system which will be released on 18 July 2015. The R.E.P. program
team will be directing R.E.P.s in the coming weeks to align their activities to the Talent
Triangle and will provide the necessary instructions/aids to accomplish this goal via
email.Create new courseware to align to the PMI Talent Triangle (optional).Educate
students on how changes will affect them (ongoing).
10Can courses be classified as more than one skill area of the PMI Talent Triangle?Yes.
Courses can be classified under multiple skill areas (Technical Project Management,
Leadership, Strategic and Business Management) of the PMI Talent Triangle.
11When will I be able to align my courses with the PMI Talent Triangle or enter new
ones? The updated CCR system will be live on 18 July 2015. The R.E.P. program team
will be directing R.E.P.s in the coming weeks to align their activities to the PMI Talent
Triangle and will provide the necessary instructions/aids to accomplish this goal via
email so watch your email.
12What happens if I do not align my courses with the PMI Talent Triangle before the
system goes live to all certification holders (December 2015)?Courses that are not
reclassified before the updates go live may not appear in the search filter or search
results, and will not have associated PDU information when certification holders try to
claim PDUs for the activities. Therefore it is imperative that all necessary changes are
made prior to the go live date.
13R.E.P.s find significant value in delivering CAT-A PDUs today. Will the same preapproved PDUs process apply to the updated CCR program and system?Yes. The same
R.E.P. pre-approved logic will apply in the new system.
14For which activities will certification holders be able to earn and claim
PDUs?Certification holders will be able to earn and claim PDUs for all of the activities
they could in the past including: taking courses, attending educational activities and
events, reading or participating in self-directed learning activities like reading a book,
creating new project management knowledge, volunteering, working as a project
practitioner.
15How can I help my students to prepare for the upcoming changes? You can
communicate what you’ve learned here about the CCR program updates to your students
and inform them that more details will be made available and communicated in the near
future.

How to Categorize the PDU Activities According to the PMI Talent Triangle?
Fortunately, for most premium PMP / PMI-ACP educational courses and seminars, the
education providers, such as PMI Registered Education Providers (R.E.P.), would do the
hard work for you. If you are attending PMI seminars, the PDUs will even be reported
automatically to your PMI account with the appropriate skill areas tagged for you. There
is no differences for the reporting steps. However, for other education courses that are not
targeted solely at PMP or PMI-ACP, the Certification holders would need to categorize
the activity themselves. PMI has issued a flyer that provides many examples of the kinds
of activities that would be counted towards a particular skill area of the PMI Talent
Triangle:
Technical
Domain expertise; the same PDU not applicable to all Certifications
Agile practices [PMP, PMI-ACP]
Earned value management [PMP, PMI-ACP]
Governance (project, program, portfolio) [PMP]
Lifecycle management (project, program, portfolio, product) [PMP, PMI-ACP]
Requirements management and traceability [PMP]
Risk management [PMP, PMI-ACP]
Schedule management [PMP]
Scope management (project, program, portfolio, product) [PMP]
Time, budget, and cost estimation [PMP, PMI-ACP]
Leadership
Competency in guiding and motivating; the same PDU applies to all Certifications

Customer relationship and satisfaction
Industry knowledge and standards
Legal and regulatory compliance
Market awareness and conditions

(Reference: PMI Talent Triangle Skill Examples)
Can a PDU Activity be Reported in More Than 1 Skill Areas?
Yes, just as PMI allows Certification holders to report PDU to be reported in multiples of
0.25 PDU, PDUs
earned in Category A and B can be reported in multiples of 0.25 PDU.
For example, if you attend a course (with 2 PDU) with focuses on Technical Project
Management (3/4 of
the course) and Leadership (1/4 of the course), you can claim:
1.5 PDU for Technical Project Management
0.5 PDU for Leadership
