COURSE DESCRIPTION AND INTENT:
The intent of the Pleasant Valley School District Health Education Department is to
provide students with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to achieve and
maintain a physically active and healthful life. (Adapted from 22 Pa. Code, Chapter 4,
Appendix D; Academic Standards for Health, Safety and Physical Education)

OBJECTIVES
The learner will identify and know the functions of the major body organs and
systems.
The learner will identify the types of muscles groups associated with the muscular
system and their specific functions.
The learner will examine the function of the nervous system
The learner will examine how the digestive system breaks food down and how it is
absorbed into the blood.
The learner will be able identify how the circulatory system carries needed substances
to cells and carries waste products away.
The learner will identify how the respiratory system moves oxygen from outside the
environment into the body.
The learner will examine the skeletal provides shape and protection to the body’s
organs and how it produces blood cell and stores minerals.
The learner will analyze nutritional concepts that impact health
