FALSE RELIGION, JUDGED
01-18-09
(Luke 4:25) But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up
three years and six months [“that it might not rain” James 5:17], when great famine was throughout all the land;
(1 Ki 18:17-20) And it came to pass [“in the third year” 1 Ki 18:1], when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto
him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel? And he [Elijah] answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy
father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim
[Heb: Baal; a fertility and nature god of the Canaanites and Phoenicians]. Now therefore send, and gather to me
all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves [Heb:
Asherah (or Astarte) a Phoenician goddess; the wife of Baal] four hundred, which eat at Jezebel's table [supported
by Jezebel]. So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.
(1 Ki 18:21) And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye [Heb: to hop over, to skip over, to
dance: leap] between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal [“the god of this world” 2 Cor
4:3], then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
1. (Mat 6:24) No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else
he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon [Gk: fig. wealth,
personified); avarice (deified)].
a. avarice = synonyms: greed, materialism, covetousness, acquisitiveness, cupidity
2. (James 1:8) A double minded [Gk: two-spirited, i.e. vacillating (in opinion or purpose)] man is
unstable in all his ways.
3. (Mat 12:30) He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
(1 Ki 18:22-24) Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal's
prophets are four hundred and fifty men. Let them therefore give us two bullocks [young virgin bulls]; and let them
choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress
the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on
the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and
said, It is well spoken.
(1 Ki 18:25-29) And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it
first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under. And they took the bullock which
was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal,
hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped [Heb: danced] upon the altar which was
made. And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is
talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked. And they cried
aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets [Heb: lances, spears] [pointed objects], till
the blood gushed out upon them. And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of
the offering of the evening sacrifice [3pm], that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that
regarded.
1. (Deut 14:1) Ye are the children of the LORD your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any
baldness between your eyes [“or shave the front of your heads” NIV] for the dead.
PROPHECY
(1 Ki 18:30-35) And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him.
And he repaired the [old] altar of the LORD that was broken down [vs. setting up a new altar which would
infer a change in theology] [1]. And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of
Jacob [thereby calling for unification, because they were at that moment separated into the 10 northern tribes and
2 southern], unto whom the word of the LORD came [those imputed for righteousness - only], saying, Israel
shall be thy name: And with the stones [unified, as a foundation] he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and
he made a trench [2] about the altar, as great [Heb: a house: palace, temple] as would contain two measures of
seed [3] [God the Father and God the Holy Spirit, i.e., the Old Testament. In this dimension of understanding, God
the Son, the third measure, was not yet given until the New Testament]. And he put the wood in order [unsaved
sinning men in judgment – disorder into order] [4,5,6], and cut the bullock [the young virgin bull] in pieces, and
laid him on the wood [of the cross], and said, Fill four barrels [7] [representing the four gospels of Matthew,
Mark, Luke, and John (who are also represented by the four pillars or gospels hidden under the veil in the
Tabernacle. The five pillars under the door of the tent represent the five books of the Pentateuch)] with water [the
Holy Spirit], and pour it on the burnt sacrifice [of Jesus Christ], and on the wood [the sins of humanity]. And he
said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the
third time [three times indicates the anointing of the Holy Trinity]. And the water ran round about [Heb: a circle:
compass] [overflowed] the altar; and he filled the trench [the filling of the Holy Spirit, he filled the “house”]
also with water.
1. (Acts 15:16,17) After this I will return [i.e, the Second Coming of Jesus Christ], and will build
again the tabernacle of David [during the “sixth seal” (Rev 6:12-17;20:4-6) which announces the
beginning of the 1,000 year millennium], which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins
thereof, and I will set it up: That the residue [Gk: left down (behind), i.e. remaining] of men might
seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called [i.e., born-again Christians],
saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. [ref: Amos 9:11,12] [please note that “residue” in the Greek
means “left behind”]
2. trench = Heb: a channel (into which water is raised for irrigation); also a bandage or plaster (as placed
upon a wound):--conduit, cured, healing, little river, trench, watercourse /// ascend: arise (up), ascend
(up), spring (up).
3. (Mat 13:33) Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven [fig. false
doctrine], which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal [ground up seed = word of God;
God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit], till the whole was leavened.
4. (Jer 5:14) Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will
make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.
5. (Ezek 21:31,32) And I will pour out mine indignation upon thee, I will blow against thee in the fire of
my wrath, and deliver thee into the hand of brutish men, and skilful to destroy. Thou shalt be for fuel
to the fire; thy blood shall be in the midst of the land; thou shalt be no more remembered [a promise to
the unrepentant]: for I the LORD have spoken it.
6. (Zec 12:6) In that day will I make the governors [Heb: friends] of Judah like an hearth of fire
among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about,
on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in
Jerusalem.
7. barrels = Heb: to deepen; prop. a pail; but gen. of earthenware; a jar for domestic purposes:--barrel,
pitcher. [these four barrels may be associated with the “six waterpots of stone” John 2:6]
(1 Ki 18:36-39) And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice [3pm; THAT TIME IS VERY
NEAR], that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known
this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy
word. Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast
turned their heart back again. Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed [“our God is a consuming fire” Heb
12:29] the burnt sacrifice [the Lamb of God], and the wood [sinners], and the stones [the “living stones”
NKJV; 1 Pet 2:5: saints], and the dust [humanity], and licked up the water [“and the spirit shall return unto
God who gave it” Eccl 12:7] that was in the trench. And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and
they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.
(1 Ki 18:40,41) And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took
them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon [Heb: winding /// to set a trap, lay a snare], and slew
them there. And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.
1. (Joel 2:23) Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given
you the former rain moderately [“the earnest of the Spirit” 2 Cor 1:22;5:5], and he will cause to come
down for you [all] the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain [i.e., the fullness of the rain (Holy
Spirit)] in the first month [of the 1,000 year millennium].
Amen
