Raipur, February 02, 2012: The Russian Boxing contingent comprising of 5 elite boxers Alikhan Avtarkhanov (weight category -56 kg), Usikov Roman (weight category -64 kg),

Garakyan arrived at Raipur Airport in the afternoon today to participate in the first ever
boxing bilateral series between India & Russia initiated by Monnet Ispat & Energy
Limited. The event ‘Fight Night’ will witness top boxers from India and Russia battle it
out in the first match of Monnet Fight Night series in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
Commenting on the Monnet Boxing Fight Night, Mr. Sandeep Jajodia, Executive Vice
Chairman, Monnet Ispat & Energy Limited said, “At Monnet Group it has been our
constant endeavor to promote boxing as a sport in the country and as a part of our CSR
initiative the Monnet Group has proudly associated itself with boxing by being the
official sponsors of the Indian Boxing Team. Monnet believes that our country having
population of more than 1.2 billion has potential to churn good boxers, however the
irony is that not much attention is given towards developing boxing as a loved sport and
identifying and training amateur boxers. Monnet, to address this concern has also set up
Monnet Boxing Foundation –to identify and train amateur boxers. Chhattisgarh an
upcoming sporting destination has a huge talent pool of potential boxers and Monnet in
order to provide a platform with world class facilities would be setting up Monnet
Boxing Academy in the planned Sports City in Chhattisgarh to train the amateur boxers
from the grassroots level.
“Another area of concern is that today, no other sport besides Cricket is getting
recognition due to lower level of entertainment aspect attached to other sports
compared to Cricket. Therefore to add a flavor of entertainment to the real boxing,
Monnet is organizing Monnet Fight Night that will give a new perspective to the boxing
by a unique blend of entertainment with Boxing.” Added, Mr. Jajodia
