Dragonflies
A dragonfly is an insect that can hover in the air.
Hover means to hang in the air. It also means to float
over one place.

Dragonflies and frogs are alike in one way. Both
dragonflies and frogs lay their eggs in water! A mother
dragonfly lays her eggs in the water. After a few days,
the eggs hatch and become squirming baby
dragonflies called nymphs. (Nimfs) Dragonfly nymphs
look like dragonflies without wings.

A nymph lives in the water for about one year. Some
nymphs live in the water for almost two or three years.
Nymphs eat insects and small fish. When it is time for
a nymph to become a dragonfly it swims to the shore
of the pond or river that it lives in. It climbs up on a
twig. Its skin splits open so its wings can come out.
The nymph has now become a dragonfly. When its
wings are dry, it flies away.
