left hand side and then click “Sullivan Ballou Letter” on the new menu that appears.
This is a letter written by a Union soldier to his wife and son back home. Read the
letter, then give your reaction to what you read—did you think it was sweet? Too
verbose? Make sure you read the information after the letter as well—you may be
surprised to see what happens to his wife afterward.

A large Union army was halted by a much smaller force
commanded by General 'Stonewall' Jackson. The Unionist
troops then fled back to Washington in panic. It was now
