Part One: Overview and lesson:
The goal: To develop an understanding of the concept of square roots and perfect square numbers.
The Lesson
One: The square root of a number is a number that can be multiplied by itself to reach the initial number. For
example, the principal square root of 16 is 4, because 4x4=16, just as the principal square root of 36 is 6,
because 6 x 6 = 36.
For example.
25  5
5 is a square root of 25 because
Rule:
Also:

n
5² = 25
a2  b, then b  a
1 n
 b2
The symbol used here is called the radical
sign (√), and it stands for the principal
square root of the number inside.
Two: Since the principal square root of 25 is the whole number (5), we refer to 25 as a perfect
square. A perfect square is a number which has a whole number as its principal square root.
