2014 Carvers Bay High School Summer League Rules What Coaches Have to Say About the Carvers Bay Summer League: “The Carvers Bay Summer League was well run, competitive and enjoyable. My kids had a great time competing against the best teams in the area. Dr. Greg Elliott, Head Coach Summerville High School (AAAA) “It is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to get good game in during your team's summer play.” Monte Carr, Head Coach St. James High School (AAA) The experience our players gained from participating in the summer league with such outstanding competition helped our players succeed this season. (Ranked #1 in WV AAA standings). Head Coach Dave Rogers, Martinsburg High School The summer league at Carver’s Bay led by Coach Mezzatesta is a great experience to get all levels of teams in your programs better. The variety of teams and competition give all programs a chance to get their teams better and evaluate their talent level. The league is organized and well run! Carvers Bay I and Carvers Bay II) Junior Varsity teams are allowed to participate in the Carvers Bay Summer League Dates of Summer League and Site Supervisors: June 11th – 12th Jeff Mezzatesta (CBH), Lenard Brockington (CBM), Terry Cox (PHE) June 18th – 19th Jeff Mezzatesta (CBH), Lenard Brockington (CBM), Terry Cox (PHE) Officials: Referees will be provided Visiting coaches will NOT have to do any officiating. Some of these referees will be in training for the 2014 – 2015 season so please be patient. Past and present varsity coaches from our area will also serve as referees for some games, however, only in extreme circumstances. Game Rules Good sportsmanship is mandatory and required from coaches and players. THESE ARE GLORIFIED SCRIMMAGES! Please keep in mind that we are here to get our teams better and there no awards or trophies presented at the end of the day! Two (2) 20 minute running clock halves Halftime will consist of a 5 minute break in play. The clock will stop the last minute of each half Individual personal fouls will not be scored in an official book; therefore there will be no fouling out. However, team fouls will be recorded and the following rules will apply: 1. Every shooting foul will result in one foul shoot attempt from the foul line and if made the fouled team will receive 2 points or 3 points in case of a foul while attempting a three point goal (we do this in hope of allowing more playing time). 2. After 7 team fouls, 1 and 1 situations will be conducted in a real game manner. 3. Once a team has reached 10 team fouls, the team who has been fouled will go to the line to shoot 2 shots 4. Once a team has reached 12 team fouls, the player who has been fouled will receive 1 shot from the foul line, worth 1 point, if the free throw is made, and will receive the ball again at half court. We have found this system helps us emphasize hard clean play. Game Rules (continued) 5. Once the game has reached the 1 minute mark of each half all fouls are erased and every foul (with the exception of shooting fouls) from that point to the end of the half is considered a 1 and 1 situation to be handled as regular game conditions. 6. A player who is assessed a technical foul should be sat on the bench with the coach until the coach feels a reasonable cooling down period has been established and the player is fit to enter the game again. 7. If a player receives two (2) technical fouls in one game the player is not allowed to reenter that game, but may play in the following game. 8. Technical fouls are penalized with the opposing team receiving 1 foul shot worth 2 points and the ball. Teams are expected to be at game sites (10 – 15 minutes) early for their contest. Teams will be given 5 – 10 minutes to warm-up prior to each contest. Games that end in a tie will go to a one (1) minute overtime. Both teams will be in a true game time one and one situation on all foul situations (bonus shot if first attempt made), and the clock to be handled as in a regular game condition (stopped on dead ball, foul, etc…). If game goes to a second overtime then both teams will bring their 3 best foul shooters to the line and the teams will alternate between shooters for the three shots. The team with the best out of three attempts wins. If tied after the three shooters it goes head to head until a team makes their shot and their opponent misses Each team will have 3 full and (2) two 30 second timeouts per game. Trainer: We will NOT have a trainer on site for games this season. We will utilize county response (911) for any major concerns.
