Climate and Organisms
Hot in daytime, cool or cold at night: very dry; organisms are adapted to extreme
temperatures and dry conditions
Warm temperatures, do not vary much throughout the year; very wet and humid; greater
variety of species than any other biome
Extremely cold winters, warmer summers; windy; very dry; no trees; only low growing
plants
Receives between 25 and 75 centimeters of rain each year; populated by grasses and
many large herbivores
This sub arctic climate has long winters and short summers. The average temperature
ranges from -4˚F to 64˚F. Many evergreen plants (plants with needles) have adapted to
survive here.
This biome can range in temperatures from the negative digits up to over 100˚F. There are
four seasons. A wide variety of trees with leaves and evergreens live here.
This biome had a dry and wet season. The land has few trees and is covered in grasses.
The rich soil makes the land excellent for farming, but it is too thin & dry for trees to
survive. There are often fires that help to maintain the land.
D. Identify the items below as either Abiotic or Biotic. You can write “A” or “B” in the blank.

21. _______________ Cactus
19. ______________
