CELL CYCLE AND MITOSIS PUZZLE
17 POINTS
INTRODUCTION (4 points)
Define the following terms:
a. Binary fission
b. Cell Cycle
c. Interphase
d. Mitosis
e. Somatic cells
f. Chromatid
g. Cytokinesis
h. Cyclin
MITOSIS PUZZLE (13 points)
1. Cut out the cells of the mitosis puzzle.
2. Arrange the cells of mitosis in order in a line from top to bottom. The daughter cells
resulting from the division should be at the bottom of the page. Tape or glue down the
pieces. (5 points)
3. Label the diagram using the instructions on the following page. (8 points)
Name:________________________________Hour:________
INTERPHASE
1. Label the diagram in the proper
place with the words “Cell
Cycle: Eukaryotic Cell
Division”
2. Put a star next to the step in the
cell cycle where the DNA is
replicated.
3. Label the diagram in the proper
place with the word “Mitosis:
Nuclear Division”
4. Label the 4 phases of mitosis
alongside the picture of the
puzzle that represents it.
5. Circle the phase of mitosis in
which the spindle fibers start to
form with a red circle
6. Circle the phase of mitosis in
which the sister chromatids
separate with a blue circle
7. Circle the centrioles with a
green circle somewhere on the
diagram
8. The last picture in the puzzle is
actually not part of mitosis,
because it is not part of nuclear
division. It is the division of the
cytoplasm, which follows
mitosis and is the last event in
the whole cell cycle. Label the
last picture with the name of
this process.
