Dihybrid Cross
Directions: As you know, the inheritance of any given set of alleles depends on chance. Therefore, the
laws of probability can be used to predict the genotypes and phenotypes of offspring resulting from
specific crosses. In this activity, you will use problem solving skills to complete the different Dihybrid
crosses. Remember that in a dihybrid corss you are looking at two separate traits.
A. In Rabbits:
Black hair is dominant = B Blond hair is recessive = b
Curly hair is dominant = C Straight hair is recessive = c
1. If the female rabbit is homozygous dominant for both traits, what is her genotype?
_________________________________________________________________
2. If the male rabbit is heterozygous for both traits, what is his genotype?
_________________________________________________________________
B. In Pea Plants:
Green pods are dominant = G
Yellow pods are recessive = g
Tall plants are dominant = T
Short plants are recessive = t
1. If a pea plant is heterozygous for both traits, what is its genotype?
__________________________________________________________________
2. If a pea plant is homozygous dominant for both traits, what is its genotype?
_________________________________________________________________
C. In Pea Plants:
Round seeds are dominant = R
Wrinkled seeds are recessive = r
Yellow seeds are dominant = Y
Green seeds are recessive = y
1. If a pea plant is heterozygous for both traits, what is its genotype?
_________________________________________________________________
2. If a pea plant is homozygous dominant for both traits, what is its genotype?
_________________________________________________________________
D. In people Black hair is dominant (B) over blond hair (b). Curly hair is dominant (C) over straight hair
(c). Complete the punnet square if both parents are heterozygous for both traits.

E. In the punnet square below set up a cross between two pea plants, each of which is heterozygous for
both traits.
R= Dominant allele for round seeds
r= Recessive allele for wrinkled seeds
L= Dominant allele for long stems
l= Recessive allele for short stems

F. In the punnett square below set up a cross between 2 pea plants that are heterozygous for both traits.
Green pods (G) are dominant over yellow pods (g). Tall stems (T) are dominant over short stems (t).
