Angles Analogy Examples Vocabulary Term ALTERNATE EXTERIOR ANGLES Analogy (______is like ______ because ...) The angles (A) and (C) on the outside of the parallel lines on the ramp are examples in the video game Donkey Kong of alternate exterior angles because they are on the outside of the parallel lines on different sides of the transversal (ramp). ALTERNATE INTERIOR ANGLES The ramp 1 top upper corner (D) and bottom of the ramp underneath (B) are like alternate interior angles in your math problem because they are both inside the parallel lines (represented by different levels you travel in the game to reach the top to beat Donkey Kong) and opposite of the transversal (ramp). COMPLEMENTARY ANGLES Complementary angles are like the two minion angles in the diagram, together when you add up their angles (or compliments) you get a right angle or 90o. SUPPLEMENTARY ANGLES Supplementary angles are like the half of the pie pictured above. When you add the two angles of the top two pieces you get 180o or half the pie. PARALLEL LINES The lines that mark off 10 yard increments on a football field are examples of parallel lines because they never intersect. CONGRUENT The squares of the rubik’s cube are congruent because they are equal in size and shape. In geometry congruent means equal. VERTICAL ANGLES Vertical angles are like c and d in the scissor above because they are across from each other at the vertex (or in this case the screw which holds the arms of the scissors together). TRANSVERSAL A transversal is like the pole (yellow) in the stair rails above which supports or connects the various parallel poles (red) in the staircase rails pictured above.
