34) Graph the line y = -2x-2.
35) Graph the line 5x-2y=-2
36) Graph the line with slope -2/3 passing through the point (5,4)
Using slope = rise/run = -2/3
First plot the point (5, 4) and then move down 2 steps and then move three steps to the
right, we will get the point (8, 2). Draw the line through both the points.
39) Graph the inequality below on a number line. A is greater or equal to -2
40) Find both the X-intercept and the Y -intercept of the line given by the equation
2x+6y+10=0
For finding x-intercept, put y = 0
2x + 10 = 0
 2x = -10
 x = -5
x-intercept is (-5, 0).
For finding y-intercept, put x = 0
6y + 10 = 0
 6y = -10
 y = -10/6 = -5/3
y-intercept is (0, -5/3).
41) Find the slope of the line 2x=5y-3
We can write equation as
5y = 2x + 3
 y = (2/5)x + (3/5)
Slope = 2/5
43) A line passes through the point (x,y)=(7,-8) and has a slope of -6 . Write an
equation for this line.
The equation of line of slope m and passing though (x1, y1) will be
(y – y1) = m(x – x1)
y – (-8) = -6(x – 7)
y + 8 = -6x + 42
y = -6x + 42 – 8
y = -6x + 34
Equation of line will be y = -6x + 34
45) Write equations for the vertical and the horizontal lines passing through the
point (4,6) in(x,y) -coordinates.
Vertical line will be x = 4 and horizontal line will be y = 6.
48) Find the values of x and y that solve the following system of equations:
2x-3y = -14 --------------(i)
3x-7y = -21 --------------(ii)
Multiply equation (i) by 3 and (ii) by 2, we will get
6x – 9y = -42----------(iii)
6x – 14y = -42--------(iv)
Now subtract (iv) from (iii), we will get
5y = 0
 y=0
Substitute value of y in (i), we will get
2x – 0 = -14
 x = -7
The solution is x = -7, y = 0
49) Find two numbers whose sum is 52 and such that one is 3 times as large as
the other.
(We will call the two numbers x and y.)
Sum is 52.
Therefore equation will be
x + y = 52-----------(i)
one is 3 times as large as the other.
Let x = 3y
x -3y = 0------------(ii)
Subtract (ii) from (i)
4y = 52
 y = 13
We know that x + y = 52
 x = 52 – 13 = 39
The numbers will be 39 and 13.
50) Fill in the blank to make the two fractions equivalent.
4/5 = /30
Let the missing number be x
Then
4/5 = x/30
Cross-multiply
120 = 5x
=> x = 120/5 = 24
Answer: 4/5 = 24/30
