INFORMATION SHEET
SEDATION of the CARDIAC CASE
DOGS
 Our current sedation regimes for dogs for thoracic radiography.
 For effective sedation dogs must be left undisturbed in a quiet environment and given 5-10
minutes to sedate.
Note: For dogs, most respiratory cases are better anaesthetised to obtain good quality radiographs,
by holding the lungs inflated to normal tidal volume (this improves aeration and reduces
movement blur) and to perform bronchoscopy.
Caution:
1. Dogs in congestive failure, or are debilitated, use a ¼ to ½ these doses - and if not enough, more
can be given.
2. Boxer dogs - due to their vagal sensitivity, a low dose of ACP must be used (ie. one third of
standard dose) and given i/m only.

Suggested sedation regimes for cats for thoracic radiography.
For effective sedation cats must be left undisturbed and given sufficient time.
