RADIOACTIVE ELEMENTS AS INDICATORS OF CRUSTAL TYPES FORMING ON
THE BASE AND IN THE FRAME OF ACTIVE CONTINENTAL MARGIN
Yu.M. Puzankov, Yu.M. Stefanov
The low concentrations of U, Th, K and low Th/U ratios are typical for volcanic arcs
formed above an oceanic crust. The increase of concentrations of radioactive elements in igneous
rocks correlates with the maturity of the continental mafic basement in the lower parts of
volcanic arcs. At the same time the preferential Th enrichment may indicate the presence of
silicic continental crust blocks.
