Rev. James E. Washington, M.Ed.
Rev. James E. Washington is a native of Grenada, Mississippi. He is the eighth child
and fifth son of the late Edmond Washington, Sr and Beulah Mae Washington.
While in high school Rev. Washington’s gift of leadership began as he was an above
average student athlete and Chair of the Student Council of Grenada High School. He
is a 1983 graduate of Jackson State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in
Therapeutic Recreation. In 1985, he earned his Master’s Degree in Special EducationLearning Disabilities also from Jackson State University. He is currently pursuing a
PhD in Pastoral Ministry at Newburgh Seminary and Bible College in Newburgh, IN.
Rev Washington answered the call to the ministry in 1993, while serving as an
ordained Deacon of the Second New Guide Missionary Baptist Church in Metairie,
Louisiana under the pastoral and mentorship of Rev. Calvin Jackson, Sr. He was
ordained in 1998 while serving as an Associate Minister of the Bright Light Baptist
Church in Takoma Park, MD under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Dr. Issac Alston.
In April 2001 Rev. Washington and his family united with Poplar Grove Baptist
Church. In January 2008 Rev Washington served as the Interim Pastor of the Poplar
Grove Baptist Church. In February 2011 he was selected as Pastor of Poplar Grove
Baptist Church. He is an active member of the Black Minister Conference of
Montgomery Co, MD where he serves on the executive board as a member at large.
He is also a former spiritual advisor to the Treasures of the Heart Ministries.
Rev Washington is the founding President of the Louisiana Therapeutic Recreation
Association, Inc. and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He currently
resides in Gaithersburg, MD with his wife of 28 years, former Trinidad Olympian
Deaconess Ester Hope Washington. They are the parents of three wonderful daughters
Franchasca a graduate of Alcorn State University. Ashli a graduate of Hampton
University and Amanda who is currently attending Spelman College in Atlanta. He is
the proud grandparent of Ashli’s pet Shih Tzu (she-zoo) dog “Pepper Anne”. Rev
Washington is a blessed God-father and proud uncle of more than fifty nieces,
nephews and grand nieces and nephews. The most impacting Word in his life is
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be
added unto you.”
