HANDBOOK
Name: ______________________________________________________
Polygons
Polygon: is a closed figure made up of line segments
Regular Polygon: have sides of equal length and angles of
equal measure
Made of Line Segments
Closed Figure
NOT made of line segments
NOT a Closed Figure
Types of Triangles
All 3 angles of a triangle add up to 180°
Equilateral Triangle: All sides are equal in length and all
three angles have the same measure.
Isosceles Triangle: At least two sides are equal in length
and at least two angles have the same measure.
Scalene Triangle: All three sides are different lengths and
all three angles have different measures.
Types of Angles
Acute Angle: an angle that measures less than 90°.
Obtuse Angle: an angle that measures greater than 90°
but less than 180°.
Right Angle: an angle that measures exactly 90° (forms an
“L”).
Straight Angle: an angle that measures exactly 180° (forms
a straight line).
Reflex Angle: an angle that measures greater than 180° but
less than 360°.*HINT* measure the inside angle first, then
subtract from 360°
Properties of Quadrilaterals
Type
Properties
Parallelogram
 Opposite sides are equal and
parallel
 Opposite angles are equal
Rectangle
 A parallelogram with four right
angles
 Opposite sides are equal and
parallel
 All angles are right angles (90˚)
Square
 A rectangle with all sides the
same length
 Opposite sides are parallel
 All angles are right angles (90˚)
Rhombus
 A parallelogram with all sides
the same length
 Opposite sides are parallel
 Opposite angles are equal
Trapezoid
 Only one pair of parallel sides
Special Quadrilaterals
Groups of quadrilaterals are classified by their properties
Trapezoid – exactly one pair of parallel sides
trapezoid
Parallelogram – two pairs of opposite sides parallel and equal
