How to win souls
2 Timothy 1:8-9 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of
me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the
power of God, 9who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our
works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ
Jesus before time began,
God calls us to witness for Jesus. God has saved us and called us with a holy
calling.
This lesson will help you to be a soul winner.
1) It is your responsibility to tell the world about Jesus.
2) Do not despise days of small things.
Zechariah 4:10 For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven
rejoice to see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. They are the eyes of the LORD,
which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth."
Do not look down on little things you do for God, because little things will
become great and mighty when Jesus is in them.
3)
Do not keep your attention on your situation or circumstance. Look up and
see that the world is ready for Jesus.
John 4:35 "Do you not say, `There are still four months and then comes the
harvest'? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already
white for harvest!
4) Do not witness to everyone you meet. Witness to people when the Holy
Spirit says, “Do it.” When the Holy Spirit touches you to do it, you do it.
Don’t do it in the flesh.
You should pray that God will open the door: “Lord, let something open so
that I can talk to someone about the love of Jesus.” God wants us to put the seed
of His truth into people’s hearts.
You sow the seed and the Holy Spirit convicts people’s hearts. All we do is
to sow the seed. God will give you the harvest. It is your job to tell them the
gospel.
Now you will learn Biblical principles of how to win souls.
Luke 22:32 "But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you
have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren."
Jesus told Peter that if his life was bound by the enemy or attached to the
world, he was not in a position of being His witness. The blind cannot lead the
blind! Make sure your life is clean and right in God’s sight.
You cannot be a full blessing to someone else if your life is in a mess. The
Lord is always gracious and forgiving. He forgave Peter. After Peter repented,
he could strengthen the brethren. After he changed, he became the strength after
a pillar of the church in Jerusalem.
Make sure that your life is strong in the Lord and in His power.
Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
When people are open to listen to you, you should share the Word of God. You
should speak the Word of God. This is what you should share:
1.
Everyone is a sinner
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
You point out first that in the sight of God, everyone is a sinner. You tell
unbelievers that they need the Savior, the Lord Jesus. No one on earth is
righteous. Every man falls short of the glory of God.
Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his
own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
All sinners are lost. The true need of man is salvation. You should point to
their need, that is to be saved. The unsaved may try to distract you from the
gospel and the issue of salvation. Every sinner has gone astray and turned to his
own way. But God has laid on Jesus the iniquity of all men. Sinners are lost
sheep and follow their own way.
2.
Every sinner is a slave of sin
John 8:34, 36 Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits
sin is a slave of sin. 36"Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
Isaiah definitely talked about Jesus in the fifty third chapter. He did not talk
about a regular Jewish man. The Holy Spirit uses what you have inside you.
When you fill your heart with the Word, He can use you in line with the truth
you know. The Holy Spirit uses what is inside you.
2
Jesus says that whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. He has lost in the sight
of God. Isaiah talked about the Son of God. His Name is Jesus.
When you witness, do not just say “God”. Why? Because there are many
gods. We should use the Name “Jesus.” Don’t say, “God wants to save you.”
You say, “Jesus loves you and wants to save you.”
John 12:32 "And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself."
3.
The answer to man’s sin is the Son of God
The Son can set sinners free. He who has the Son has life. The focus is the
Son.
John 8:36 "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
4.
Jesus is a free gift to sinners
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in
Christ Jesus our Lord.
You let God speak for Himself through His Word. He will speak to the
unsaved into their hearts. The Word is the weapon God can use. The Word will
destroy the work of the devil. This is why the Bible says, “Preach the Word! Be
ready in season and out of season... (2 Timothy 4:2)”.
After you show them that they are sinners, they are lost, and Jesus can save
them, you tell them that Jesus is a free gift to man from God. He gives light to
the world. He came to set us free and light will come into your life. He loves you
and wants to set you free.
5.
He who believes in the Son has everlasting life
John 3:36 "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not
believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."
He who believes in the Son has everlasting life. Jesus does not only give
light but also everlasting life. Many people want to be born again, but do not
know how. You need to stay simple when you talk to them. You do not act like a
3
great theologian when you preach the gospel.
The good news is a simple
message. When you preach it in a simple way, your preaching will be effective.
Many people who grow up in a church may not have an idea what salvation
and the gospel are. When you talk to these people, you should use John 1:12.
You should read the Scriptures with them. Do not say, “Go home and read them
yourself.” Use your mouth as an instrument of God. Read the Scriptures with
the unsaved.
John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become
children of God, to those who believe in His name:
The Bible says, “As many as received Him....” Jesus will not push Himself
into anyone’s life.
You help them understand that they must make their
decision to receive Jesus.
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of
God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
You show them that they can receive Jesus by believing in the gospel. Now
tell them what the gospel is.
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I
preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2by which also you are
saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you--unless you believed in vain.
3For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins
according to the Scriptures, 4and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third
day according to the Scriptures,
-- Christ came into the world.
-- Christ died for man’s sin.
-- Christ rose from the dead.
After they understand the gospel, you show them how to receive it.
Romans 10:9-10 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in
your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with the
heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto
salvation.
You show them the truth. They receive Jesus by believing the gospel
(Romans 1:16). The gospel is mentioned in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. Romans 10:9-10
shows them how to receive. If they say that they believe, you read Romans
10:13.
Romans 10:13 For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved."
4
Now, get them on their knees and call on the Lord. Let them confess with
their mouths, “Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. I am lost. I am in need of the Savior. I
believe in the gospel. I accept it . I receive you Lord.”
difficult questions
1.
“I am too sinful to become a child of God!”
“I am a great sinner.”
1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ
Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
Paul says that even the chief of sinners can be saved.
2.
“I can’t last as a Christian.”
John 10:28-29 "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither
shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29"My Father, who has given them to Me, is
greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand.
It is the Lord’s job to hold onto you. Jesus will not cast you out.
3.
“If I become a Christian, I will be mocked and persecuted.”
Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy
to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
The suffering of this time cannot be compared to the glory that is coming. In
Christ Jesus, God prepares many great blessings for His people.
4.
“It hurts my business. It hurts my job. I may loose my job!”
Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his
own soul?
5
5.
“The Christian life is too hard.”
Matthew 11:28-30 "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will
give you rest. 29"Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in
heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30"For My yoke is easy and My burden is
light."
Proverbs 13:15 Good understanding gains favor, But the way of the unfaithful is
hard.
It is not hard to be a Christian. It is hard to stay being a sinner.
The Holy Spirit will convict people’s heart when you use the Word. It is not
your job to convict or to convince. It is your job to tell the Word and it is His job
to convict their hearts.
“I am so glad that I have such a powerful Helper on my side. What a
powerful God I serve. Thank You, Jesus.”
While you are talking, He is working in the hearts of the unsaved. When
you preach the simple message, He convinces and convicts them. You preach the
Word and He does the work of conviction and healing. He takes the Word you
preach and uses it as a sword of the Spirit.
The Word of God is not our sword. It is the sword of the Spirit. It is in His
hands, not ours. No, it is not in our hands. You may think that you have the
sword of the Spirit in your hands. When you speak the Word of God, the Holy
Spirit takes it to fight against the devil. He uses it to cut into their hearts. People
will cry out like those on the day of Pentecost, “What must we do in order to be
saved?”
6.
“My heart is too hard.”
Ezekiel 36:26"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take
the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
God removes the heart of stone out of you and gives you a heart of flesh.
6
7.
“I have blasphemed the Holy Spirit.
unpardonable sin.”
I have committed an
The Bible says that if you are concerned about your sin, you have not done it.
Those who truly blaspheme the Holy Spirit do not care about it.
Isaiah 1:18 "Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your
sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be as wool.
John 6:37 "All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to
Me I will by no means cast out.
8.
“It is too late. I am too old.”
Luke 23:39-43 Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying,
"If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us." 40But the other, answering, rebuked him,
saying, "Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 41"And
we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done
nothing wrong." 42Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come into Your
kingdom." 43And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in
Paradise."
On the last moment, a thief on the cross asked the Lord Jesus to remember
him when He went to Paradise. It is never too late.
9.
“I have never done anything wrong.”
Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it
is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in
the book of the law, to do them."
You can ask, “Have you obeyed every commandment in the Bible?” If a
person breaks one law of the Bible, he cannot go to heaven. Jesus is the only
perfect Man in the world who was without sin. No one can become sinless by his
own power. If a person claims that he never sins, he says that he is equal to Jesus
and he is a savior. But you cannot fully trust him because he is not Jesus.
7
You have found a Person who never sinned and can save you from sin. That
Person is the Lord Jesus Christ. You can ask those who say that they have never
done anything wrong, “Have you ever lied?”
10.
“Too many hypocrites in the church!”
Romans 14:4, 12 Who are you to judge another's servant? To his own master he
stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand. 12So
then each of us shall give account of himself to God.
You should never judge anyone. You will stand before the Master and give
account of what you have done, not of what others have done.
11.
“I will think about getting saved.”
Isaiah 55:6 Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.
You should call upon the Lord while He is near. If you try to do it
tomorrow, He may be gone.
12.
“I am too young to get saved.”
Ecclesiastes 12:1 Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, Before the
difficult days come, And the years draw near when you say, "I have no pleasure in them":
Come to God when you are young. Don’t wait until you are old. You must
not push anyone to accept Christ. You should allow the Holy Spirit to work in
their hearts.
Acts 9:9 And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank.
Acts 22:16 `And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away
your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.'
After Paul met the Lord on the road to Damascus, it took him three days to
be born again. Jesus did not preach the gospel to him. He told Paul to meet
Ananias who told him the good news and called him to be born again. Ananias
said, “Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the Name of
the Lord.” He told Paul the good news three days later. Jesus depends on you to
preach the gospel.
