Title: Geometry – Special right triangles and Trigonometry Teacher: Adalinda Avila Date: 2/102/14 Subject/Course: Geometry Grade: 10, 11 and 12 CA Standard(s): 18.0 Students know the definitions of the basic trigonometric functions defined by the angles of a right triangle. They also know and are able to use elementary relationships between them. For example, tan(x) = sin(x)/cos(x), (sin(x))2 +(cos(x)) 2 = 1. 19.0 Students use trigonometric functions to solve for an unknown length of a side of a right triangle, given an angle and a length of a side. Learning Objective (s): 18.0A Identify Opposite and adjacent legs of a right triangle 18.0B Find the value of sine, cosine, and tangent ratios 18.0C Identifying the trig ratio given a right triangle. 18.0D Students will use the calculatorto find the value of various trig functions. 19.0A Students use trigonometric functions to solve for an unknown length of a side of a right triangle given an angle s and a length of a side. Essential Question(s): Which side is adjacent and which side is opposite to a given angle? What are trigonometric ratios? How are trigonometric ratios used? Which trigonometric ratio do I use to find a missing length of a right triangle? Assessment: Formative: Exit Slip, thumbs up/down, self created examples of inductive/deductive reasoning Summarize: Quiz, Unit Test, Academic discourse using undefined terms and other basic geometric terms. Do Now: Homework Corrections + homework reflection WHOLE GROUP Objectives Students will Identify Opposite and adjacent legs of a right triangle Find the value of sine, cosine, and tangent ratios Identifying the trig ratio given a right triangle. Students will use the calculator to find the value of various trig functions. DIRECT INTRUCTION STATION Interactive mini review Lecture: 1. I do 2. We do 3. You do Students take notes in their notebook 1. Definition of the basic trig functions 2. Solve for an unknown length using trig ratios 3. Solve word problems involving trig ratios Checking for Understanding Oral Questioning Self - Reflect Quizzes COLLABORATIVE STATION Students will identify opposite, adjacent and the hypotenuse of a right triangle Students will use their calculators to find trig ratios. After they compare their findings they will Make a conjecture involving trig ratios INDEPENDENT STATION Students will continue exploring the Concept of Trigonometric functions by using a calculator. Students can continue practicing through REV-PREP. Students will use their practice notebook To work out the problems from rev pre. Students will judge the validity of logical arguments and compare with each other. Students will give counterexamples to disprove a statement. Address possible misconceptions Utilizes the interactive whiteboard
