Lowen Chiropractic Wellness Clinic web site text
Chiropractic is the SCIENCE of locating offending spinal structures, the ART of
reducing their impact to the nervous system, and the PHILOSOPHY of all things natural.
Kinesiology: The study of muscles, especially the mechanics of human motion.
(Maybe this can go somewhere on the first page—or not.)
1.0 Lowen Chiropractic Wellness Center
With more than 20 years experience helping people feel better, the staff at Lowen
Chiropractic Wellness Clinic can help you establish a practical, healthy lifestyle so that
you feel your best every day. We believe the basis for good health is a four-part process:
customized Treatment, Exercise, Ergonomics, and a healthy Diet enhanced with natural
supplements. We can help you every step of the way to that healthy lifestyle—a lifestyle
that’s customized for your individual needs.
Treatment
With Chiropractic, a patient's overall well being is important. We recognize that many
factors affect health, including stress, exercise, diet, rest, environment, and heredity. The
Lowen Chiropractic Wellness Clinic uses drugless, non-surgical health treatments and the
body's ability to heal itself. Find out how your doctor diagnoses specific problems. Learn
what to expect from your office visit and how your problem can be treated safely and
effectively through chiropractic procedures.
Exercise
Living an active lifestyle is critical to optimum health. Learn what therapeutic stretches
and exercises can help you feel healthier and “improve your game.”
Ergonomics
Embodying ergonomics in your everyday life is important to good health. Find out how
good ergonomic principles and products can help you improve your posture, maintain
muscular-skeletal balance and get a good night’s sleep.
Nutrition
Good nutrition lowers the risk for many chronic diseases, including heart disease, stroke,
and some types of cancer, diabetes, and osteoporosis.
1
2.0 Exercise
Regular physical activity substantially reduces the risk of coronary heart disease, the
nation's leading cause of death, and decreases the risk for colon cancer, diabetes, and high
blood pressure. It also helps to control weight; contributes to healthy bones, muscles, and
joints; reduces falls among the elderly; helps to relieve the pain of arthritis; reduces
symptoms of anxiety and depression; and is associated with fewer hospitalizations,
physician visits, and medications.
Despite the proven benefits of physical activity, more than 60% of American adults do
not get enough physical activity to provide health benefits. Insufficient physical activity
is not limited to adults. More than a third of young people in grades 9–12 do not regularly
engage in vigorous physical activity.
The muscles of the torso and pelvis play an important role in providing support and
stability to the lumbar spine. Flexibility and strength exercises can bring about rapid
improvements in spinal function and decreases in pain levels.
The needs of our patients vary. The exercises that work for one will not necessarily work
for another. However, the first step toward a solution is to use clinical testing and
postural evaluation to identify the most appropriate and effective exercise routine(s).
According to a 1996 landmark report from the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC),
physical activity need not be strenuous to produce benefits and that inactive people can
improve their health by becoming moderately active on a regular basis.
Maintain a healthful body weight by balancing what you eat with physical activity. Please
consult your MD, DO or Chiropractic physician or physical therapist before trying any
new exercise.

3.0 Ergonomics
Ergonomics makes use of information from the disciplines of anatomy, demographics,
physiology and even human psychology to measure the physical characteristics of people
and their responses to environments, with particular reference to health and performance.
Good ergonomics should be embodied in all aspects of every day life from work systems,
to sports and leisure, and health and safety.
Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) refer to conditions that involve the nerves, tendons,
muscles, and supporting structures of the body. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders
occur when there is a mismatch between the physical requirements of the job and the
physical capacity of the human body. Back pain, wrist tendonitis and carpal tunnel
syndrome, to name a few of the injuries common to the modern day office worker, can all
be prevented with proper ergonomic intervention.
Ergonomic products designed for home and home office use employ the same basic
principles. Ergonomically designed sleep accessories such as pillows and bed wedges
support the natural shape of the spine leading to more restful sleep. And backrests and
supports promote good posture—essential for long lasting health.

3.1 Good posture
Most people do not think about their posture until someone brings it to their attention. It’s
been observed that poor posture habits have followed trends in society. Children carry
huge over loaded backpacks, adults lug briefcases to work, and thousands of people
spend hours hunched over a computer whether for work or play.
The primary opponent to good posture is gravity. In general, the goal, whether sitting,
standing or sleeping, is to maintain the normal shape of the spine. The spine has a slight
foreword curve in the lower back and a slight backward curve in the upper back. Poor
3
posture results from a misplacement of the body’s center of gravity while standing or
sitting. Normally, a person's center of gravity is such that a plumb line dropped from ear
level should fall straight down to the ankle, crossing the outer tip of the shoulder, the
middle of the hip, and the back of the kneecap. Injury is more likely to occur when these
curves are exaggerated or removed.
For good standing posture, the center of the head, shoulders and hip should fall in a
straight line when viewed from the side. The most common posture problems are rounded
shoulders, a forward head, a protruding abdomen and swayback. It's not uncommon for
all four to occur together.
When sitting, your back should have the gentle curves that it does when standing.
Slouching places pressure on the lower back that is 10-15 times greater than that placed
on the joints when lying down.
The benefits of good posture go beyond just preventing back pain. Good posture
improves respiration and circulation, self-image and confidence, and productivity.
Whether you are standing, sitting, or sleeping, practice improves your posture. When
poor posture has been a longtime habit, the muscles that keep you erect have to be
retrained to perform their postural duties. It's essential to stand tall, holding the head
straight and keeping the abdomen in. Avoid allowing the buttocks to protrude or the back
to swoop inward in a swayback fashion. Focus on keeping good muscle tone in your
abdominal muscles.
The appropriate support can help minimize back pain and prevent further injury. Postural
supports for sitting (postural back rests or ischial lifts for chairs and car seats), standing
(such as custom foot orthotics and heel lifts) and sleeping (mattresses and pillows) can
greatly assist in the management of lumbar spine conditions.

3.2 Getting a good night’s sleep
Sleep is not merely a “time out” from daily life. It is an active state essential for physical
and mental restoration. Yet more than 100 million Americans of all ages regularly fail to
get a good night's sleep. The spine, in particular, greatly benefits from adequate sleep.
The spine works hard all day supporting the body and its functions. A period of rest is
essential to maintain this activity. An inadequate sleep surface, however, can make this
impossible.
How you sleep and the position of your spine can make a big difference in the quality of
sleep you get every night. Poor support for your spine can lead to muscle fatigue.
Ergonomically designed beds, pillows and wedges allow you to maintain the same
natural spinal alignment that you have when standing. When your body is allowed to rest
in its natural position, muscles are relaxed and sleep is more refreshing.

3.3 Foot care
Your feet maintain the alignment of the body. Proper foot care improves posture and
health by providing musculoskeletal balance through foot, spinal, and pelvic stabilization,
resulting in a healthy nervous system. Lessening interference from the spine allows your
nervous system to adapt to everyday stresses of your environment.
Your feet with 56 bones, 38 muscles and 214 ligaments may require foot orthotics,
custom made inserts for your shoes designed to address various foot and lower body
conditions. The manufacturing and materials used vary based on patient needs, activities
and health factors. Foot orthotics can assist in the care of lower body conditions like back
pain, diabetic ulcers and knee problems. Orthotics is also prescribed to accommodate
various "wear and tear" foot conditions such as heel spurs, and soft tissue degeneration.
3.3.1 orthopedic shoe inserts
During standing and walking (not to mention running in athletes), the lumbar spine and
pelvis balance on the lower extremities. If leg or foot asymmetries or alignment problems
are present, abnormal forces are transmitted along the closed kinetic/kinematics chain,
interfering with spinal function.
These forces can be decreased significantly with the use of custom-made, corrective shoe
inserts or orthotics, which contain viscoelastic compounds. An anatomical difference in
leg length produces abnormal structural strains on the pelvis and low back. Such strains
can cause not only chronic pain but have also been shown to result in specific
degenerative changes. The use of an orthotic has been shown to reduce these structural
strains and bring about significant improvements.
4.0 Nutrition
Although Americans are slowly adopting healthier lifestyles, a large gap remains between
recommended dietary patterns and what Americans actually eat. Only about one-fourth of
U.S. adults eat the recommended five or more servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
And more than 60% of young people eat too much fat, and less than 20% eat the
recommended five or more servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
A cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle is a healthy diet. Since there are many foods and
many ways to build a healthy diet and lifestyle, there is lots of room for choice. While
specific dietary advice changes frequently, the basic food pyramid provides helpful
5
guidelines for healthy Americans over the age of two about food choices that promote
health and prevent disease. Smart foods coupled with natural vitamin supplements is a
good formula for a healthy diet.
Build a Healthy Base
Let the Food Guide Pyramid guide to the nutrients your body needs each day. Make
grains, fruits, and vegetables the foundation of your meals. This forms a base for good
nutrition and good health and may reduce your risk of certain chronic diseases. Be
flexible and adventurous—try new choices from these three groups in place of some less
nutritious foods you usually eat. Whatever you eat, always take steps to keep your food
safe to eat.
Choose Sensibly
Make sensible choices that promote health and reduce risk of certain chronic diseases.
You can enjoy all foods as part of a healthy diet as long as you don't overdo on fat
(especially saturated fat), sugars, salt, and alcohol. Read labels to identify foods that are
high in saturated fats, sugars, and salt (sodium). An excellent method to shop for
nutritious foods is to stay on the perimeter aisles of the store and only buy fresh fruit,
vegetables, and dairy instead of packaged refined products. And avoid the three white
refined foods: sugar, flour, and bread.
Add Supplements
But even the freshest fruits and vegetables aren’t enough. Because of today’s farming
techniques, many foods are grown in soil without time to replenish their natural nutrients.
Dietary supplements can add back those nutrients safely and effectively. For more
information on supplements that can enhance your diet, visit (link). (Do we need to
mention that this takes them away from his site?)

4.2 Seasilver (This was in your text file, but not on your schematic. So not sure if you
need this.)
Seasilver is a 100% whole food (plant-based) nutritional supplement with proprietary
ingredients and proprietary processing techniques. Seasilver works in perfect harmony
with mother nature, guaranteeing all nutrients will be absorbed at the cellular level.
Seasilver will help to balance your body chemistry, cleanse your vital organs, purify your
blood and lymphatic system, nourish your body at the cellular level, oxygenate your
bodies' cells, protect your tissues and cells against toxins and strengthen your immune
system. It contains every known antioxidant, ionic mineral, vitamin, enzyme, essential
fatty acid (Vitamin F), and amino acid. It is 50 times more potent than kelp, and contains
no animal by-product. The sea vegetation in Seasilver is superior to even the best organic
foods grown on land.
6
Seasilver nutrients are perfectly balanced, are in their natural liquid state, have a 98%
absorption rate, and are produced using a non-chemical processing method. It’s like
eating raw vegetables.
5.0 Treatment
Chiropractic works by restoring your own natural ability to be healthy. When under the
proper control of your nervous system, all the cells, tissues, and organs of your body are
designed to resist disease and ill health. The chiropractic approach to better health is to
locate and help remove interferences to your natural state of being healthy. Because the
primary focus of your care is improved nervous system function, chiropractic can have a
positive effect on many health conditions—not just “back problems.”
A common interference to the nervous system is the 24 moving bones of the spinal
column. A loss of normal motion or position of these bones can irritate or impair the
function of the nervous system, and disrupt the transmission of controlling nerve
impulses. Doctors of Chiropractic medicine (D.C.s) manipulate or adjust the spinal
column with easy, manual thrusts to move the spinal vertebrae back to their normal
positions. A chiropractor will sometimes also manipulate the joints of the neck, arms, and
legs.
(potential sidebar)Chiropractic Care is Safe
Chiropractic physical care—which can include chiropractic adjustments, hot and cold
therapy, trigger point therapy, massage, and traction—is a natural approach to better
health that is proven safe and effective. It is the result of a conservative approach to
health that avoids invasive procedures or addictive drugs.
5.1 Diagnosis/Your first visit
Helping to restore proper spinal biomechanics and improved nervous system function
begins with a case history. This gives your doctor a background about your health, such
as surgeries, accidents, the onset of your condition, and other details affecting your
current health.
After reviewing your history and discussing your specific problem, a thorough
orthopedic, neurological, and chiropractic examination is performed. X-rays may be
taken to uncover structural and functional problems associated with the spinal column.
These examinations help identify areas of spinal malfunction and resulting nervous
system deficit.
The doctor evaluates each patient's unique spinal problem and develops an individual
course of care. The findings of these examinations are clearly explained, and a plan of
chiropractic adjustments may be recommended. We take our commitment to you
seriously, so we monitor our specific clinical findings and custom tailor your care to your
individual needs, based on the data we collect at examination. For this reason, we
7
schedule periodic re-examinations for you so that your needs are constantly re-evaluated
and progress is monitored.
Chiropractic care at the Lowen Clinic is always delivered with confidence and precision.
Each office visit builds on the one before. And while visits may seem similar, each
patient's care is uniquely different from the next.
(Maybe this can be a caption to a picture.)
“The word "Doctor" comes from the Latin meaning teacher. Continued patient education
is a primary commitment of your Chiropractic doctor.”
5.2 Chiropractic
Your body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism. The brain, spinal cord, and all the
nerves of the body control these important functions. Chiropractors believe that
interference with the body's muscular, nervous and skeletal systems (especially the spine
or vertebrae) impairs many important body functions and lowers resistance to disease.
A great emphasis is placed on keeping the spine functioning properly to relieve pressure
on connected muscles, joints and nerves. Such therapy not only helps problems in the
back but in the feet, hands and internal organs. In fact, spinal adjustments may relieve a
spectrum of ailments such as tension headache, certain types of migraine, menstrual
cramps, allergies, asthma, stomach disorders, spastic colon, and arm, hand, and leg pain
that's due to dysfunction of the neck or lower back. Some patients with asthma and
emphysema even turn to chiropractic care to release tension in the chest.
Orthopedic exam
Chiropractic doctors use specialized techniques that frequently require specialized
examinations. This evaluation may include such components as postural analysis, specific
examination of the spine, nervous system and related soft tissue, and if necessary, further
testing such as x-ray, motion testing, muscle testing, and specified chiropractic
instrumentation that will be explained by your doctor.
