Bio/Resume-Andy Roberts – (2010)
Instrument: Piano (Composer/Arranger)
Experience: Playing Piano - 35 years.
(Professionally) – 27 years.
Influences: Scott Joplin, Jelly Roll Morton, Vladimir Horowitz, Emmanuel Ax,
Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett.
Performed with: “The Three Degrees,” Kelly Meashey, Dave Stahl, Cathy
Chemi, Pete Paulsen, Tim Warfeild, Chris Bacas, Dave Wilson, Bob Mulligan,
“Oui,4,” “Rob Stoneback Big Band,” “New York Voices” and the list goes on.
Background: Andy Roberts, Pianist/Composer/Arranger, grew up in Lebanon
Pennsylvania and began playing professional gigs at the age of 14. He later,
attended and graduated from Berklee College of Music (Boston, Mass.) where,
he was awarded the “Joe Zawinul Scholarship.” Andy has since, been busy
directing/performing/and writing music, within various formats of the music world.
He has been Music Director for numerous theaters, most notably, the Timbers
Dinner Theater, in Mt. Gretna, PA and has toured Japan several times with the
soul legends, “The Three Degrees.”
As a band leader, Andy has lead/co-lead several projects as vehicles for original
compositions and arrangements. Current bands include: “The Four Piece
Quartet,” “Meantime,” “The Two Man Group,” and the “Andy Roberts Group.” His
music is heard periodically, on WVIA National Public Radio and RUV Icelantic
Radio.
As an educator, “Mr. Roberts” teaches Jazz Studies at Lebanon Valley College in
Annville, PA and co-leads the “Music In The Schools” program, presenting
introductory Jazz and Improvisation assemblies/workshops to the south-eastern
area of Pennsylvania.
Andy Roberts is known as the “Quiet Man” of the piano however, his music
certainly, rings loud and clear!
