MABAS Wisconsin Division 112 Training April 2013 “ICS Positions to be filled” In order for our system to work to the best of its abilities there are some KEY positions that have to be filled. This information is for firefighters of all ranks as it is critical that everyone on the fire ground understand and operate under the Incident Command System at EVERY scene. The bulletin this month is an overview of a long but not completely exhaustive list of positions that may or may not be utilized at an incident. Over the next year we will publish “Position Specific” bulletins that expand on what these positions do in greater detail. Please also find time to reference the Division 112 Policy on Basic Incident Command which can be found on E-Sponder in the Policies Section. These positions are usually filled by Chief Officers or Senior Line Officers however ALL firefighters need to have an understanding of how and why any position works. Certain positions MUST be filled for every MABAS incident and these positions are: 1. Incident Command 2. Safety Officer 3. Accountability 4. Staging Officer 5. Rehab Unit Accountability is a REQUIRED element of ICS. It is advisable that the IC designate an Accountability Officer as to not become overwhelmed during an incident. Other positions that should potentially be filled depending on the incident are: 1. Operations 2. RIT Chief 3. Division/Sector Officer(s) 4. Logistics 5. Liaison ( may be multiple) 6. Public Information Officer (PIO) 7. Planning/Resource Manager Hopefully the next year’s worth of bulletins will be educational and create discussion to help enhance our fire ground management and safety and add to our professionalism within Division 112.
