Christ Community Church July 2007 (218) 963-2626 “Thanks…Amen!” Earlier this year I introduced a phrase that’s very fitting for us as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Christ Community Church. For all that has been we say “Thanks”…for all that is yet to come we say “Amen!” God has faithfully guided His ministry here according to His purposes and plans and He has always provided for His ministry abundantly and even beyond our desires and expectations. There have been times along the way when we have been anxious. Sometimes we have worried about whether or not we’ll make it. At other times we’ve grieved and mourned, or groaned and complained about the difficulties we’ve had to endure. Yet all the time God has been faithful. He has never failed us nor has He forsaken us! Our 25 year history reminds me of the 2000 year history of God’s people that’s recorded in the Old Testament. Life wasn’t always easy. Things didn’t always go the way God’s people wanted them to go or even the way they thought things should go. Often the choices God’s people made simply got them into trouble. Still God was with them. He took them back time and again. He restored their fortunes, redeemed their souls, forgave their sins, recharted their course, and reinstituted His plan! Sometimes when God’s blessings were abundant and very obvious, His people would become “smug” and self-satisfied” because things were going so well. Then they would forget Who had brought them to this point and provided for them all the good things they had. God would call them back to Himself and plead with them to trust in Him, living as His grateful people following His plan. When they would not, He would allow difficult times to come so that His people would have to turn back to Him and trust Him. Sounds a lot like us, doesn’t it? It seems that sometimes we need to be stretched beyond ourselves in order to learn (again) that God is able to do that which we are not! In our short 25 year history we, too, have experienced many of the same cycles of life that the Bible tells us are common for God’s people. Through it all we have a story to tell…a story of God’s faithfulness and enduring love…a story that blesses us as we look back and encourages us as we look ahead! And so… For all that has been we say “Thanks”…for all that is yet to come we say “Amen!” Pastor Dave Hey teens… If you haven’t signed up for the trip to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons and you think you want to go…you better call Pastor Dave (839-8972) right away! We give thanks to God and to each one of you for your faithfulness in giving. As you can see, our income to date is running a little behind our anticipated budget. Each of us must prayerfully consider our pattern of giving and seek God’s direction so that we are offering to Him what He desires from us. If you are giving CASH, and would like a record of your giving for Income Tax purposes, you need to put your cash in an envelope with your name and address on it. If you do this, you will receive a receipt for your gifts at the end of the year. Thank you! This year we are celebrating our 25th Anniversary at Christ Community Church Common Ground Sunday July 1st If you would like to show your skills at golf, this event is for you. Come and enjoy miniature golf at the beautiful Pirates Cove. The cost is $5 per person. Please purchase your tickets from Pastor Dave. (This month the event is for adults only.) Baptism… August 5th we will be celebrating our salvation at our Annual Baptismal Service. If you would like to be baptized please let Pastor Dave know, 963-2626. August 4th and 5th we will come together as a congregation and rejoice in God’s work over the last 25 years. He has blessed us tremendously and we will see those blessings through our missionaries that will be attending. Saturday evening we will enjoy a BBQ at Pastor Dave and Julie’s home and do some reminising with each other and our missionaries. August 5th we gather to enjoy a continental breakfast and learn about our ministry teams and missionaries while we enjoy music by Dick and Carol Larson. The morning service will be followed by a picnic and our annual baptism. We look forward to having you share this very special day with us. Children’s and Youth Ministries Hello from the Children and Youth Ministry Team of Christ Community Church. It's great to take this opportunity to share with each of you what it is that our Team does and the great people who God has asked to help serve on this Team. One of the main goals of this Ministry Team for this year is to increase the number of people joining us for Sunday School and for Wednesday Night AWANA and Youth programs. It is the responsibility of everyone in the church to guide our children in the way of the Lord. Here are some of the different areas of ministry through which you can get involved in the lives of the wonderful kids who are the future of Christ Community Church. Nursery led by Tina Beck and DeLynn Howard. These ladies have put together a great volunteer staff of loving and caring individuals to watch over the youngest of our congregation so that parents can have the opportunity to worship each week. Ages that are served are infant to 3 years old. They have set up a schedule of volunteers so that the volunteers only serve a couple of times a year. Remember, if you'd like a turn in the nursery, talk to Tina or DeLynn. Children’s Church led by Deb Schleusner. Deb has headed up this area for quite a few years. We are blessed to have her not only teach the children but also recruit others like you to have the opportunity to work with a great group of kids ages 4 years old through 2nd grade. Children’s Church is not Sunday School. Rather it is a time for the younger kids to learn about Jesus during our regular worship service. Volunteers are needed. If you would like to step forward and be blessed by teaching this great bunch of kids, see Deb. Sunday School (9:00 am until 10:00 am) led by Deb Schleusner. Deb has headed this area up for quite a while as well. This year the Lord called Lori Hall to help Deb out not only with teaching but also with recruiting great people like Tammy Tkalcich to help teach. A new Sunday School program will be starting this Fall. Anyone interested in helping teach our children’s Sunday School class, talk to Lori or Deb. Youth led by Tim and Dawn Norton. We finished up our first year of working with the youth (not only from our Church family but also many kids that don't have a Church home.) A lot of what is taught comes from questions the kids ask. It seems to amaze the kids when they ask a question about things that concern them in today’s world and then discover how the Bible is able to give them the answers. The Youth are also involved in B.A.Y Rallies which happen 3 times a year during the school year. It's a time where our kids have the ability to share in worship together with other youth groups around the Brainerd Lakes area. This year during our Wednesday Night Youth Group we will be learning how to share our faith with others. From time to time chaperones are needed for various Youth trips and activities. If you are willing to volunteer for one of these great opportunities, please let Tim or Dawn know. AWANA (AWANA stands for Approved Workman Are Not Afraid) led by Jim Fox. Jim is definitely not afraid to hold down the position of AWANA Commander…one of the toughest positions in Children’s Ministry. It’s tough because Jim has to coordinate many teachers, volunteers and listeners to all come together each and every Wednesday night to help teach the Word of God to kids from 3 years of age through 6th grade. AWANA is an international organization that provides teaching curriculum using age appropriate books and materials to help our teachers and volunteers teach the Word of God. You can be joyfully rewarded if you join up to help with the AWANA Program. There are many ways you can contribute. Just ask Jim Fox and he'll plug you in. As you can see we are always in need of help. (In fact, right now we’re recruiting volunteers to help with Vacation Bible School in August!) We'd love to have you join us. Whether it’s every once in a while or every week, we'll work with you. When you look at each of these elements of the Children and Youth Ministry Team, remember, we couldn't do it without first and foremost Jesus Christ and the faithful servants of Christ Community Church. We are forever grateful for all of the volunteers that give so lovingly of their time.
