Earth’s Origins, Layers, and Spheres Study Guide
Earth's Origins
Name the origin theory that goes with each of the following descriptions:
1.
____________________________

In the beginning, all matter was concentrated into a dense, dark spot that began to
shrink.

Pressure built up and caused a massive explosion. Everything went flying into space
in all directions.

Evidence support this theory is that things in space seem to be moving away from a
certain point.

Further evidence is the discovery of radiation
2. _______________________________

God created the universe and everything in it.

Evidence of this theory is that there are many things that cannot be explained by
humans, and, it seems as though some things were preplanned.
3. ______________________________

Two stars (one of them being the Sun) passed by each other and pulled pieces off of
each other.

These pieces were caught by the gravitational pull of the closer star (Sun). This
event formed the planets, asteroids, meteorites, and so on.

Evidence of this theory is the revolution of the planets around the Sun.
Earth’s Structure: Layers and Spheres

About how thick is the crust beneath the ocean?

About how thick is the crust beneath the continents?

What materials make up the crust?

Name the four layers of the earth, in correct order.

The ground you walk on is which sphere?
