Philosophy of Care
Each patient has a right to be provided with a high standard of
care in the endoscopy unit.
They shall at all times be treated with respect and dignity and
have a right to refuse treatment if they wish. (There are some
exceptions to this under the mental health act and in cases
concerning patients with incapacity to consent. In these
circumstances other trust policies should be adhered to.)
The individual needs of the patient will be assessed by medical
and nursing staff and the appropriate individualised care
implemented and evaluated. Every effort will be made to maintain
the individual’s autonomy and independence.
Information health promotion and support services are available
and will be utilised to provide on-going care for the individual,
prior to and following discharge.
It remains the nurse’s responsibility to keep their knowledge and
skills up-dated and provide support to other members of the unit
team and have an active involvement in a teaching programme and
promotion of health.
