Mountains and volcanoes form as tectonic plates move.
KEY CONCEPT
Volcanoes affect Earth’s land, air, and water.
Damage from a volcanic eruption can stretch far
from the volcano. Two of the immediate effects of a volcanic eruption are listed below. Write
a brief description of each.
1. Volcanic eruptions affect the land.

Volcanic gases can lift ash high above an
erupting volcano. Why is volcanic ash a worldwide concern?
Hot springs, geysers, and fumaroles are three features
that result when the heat of volcanic activity raises the temperature of water or gases. Write a
brief description for each of these features in the table below.
