CLASSROOM & CLASS HOURS: TR, 01:00pm - 02:15pm, 367 Votey Hall TEXTBOOK: Probability and Statistical Inference, 9th Edition; Hogg/Tanis/Zimmerman; Pearson (ISBN-13: 978-0-321-92327-1). Prerequisites: Calculus II (Math 12, 14, 20, or 22) is required STAT 151; STAT 151, or 141 or equivalent for STAT 241. COURSE OUTLINE: The textbook provides an introduction to probability and inferential statistics. The introductory probability involves primarily probability modeling and a variety of examples and exercises that are oriented toward applications in the sciences. Written by three veteran statisticians, this applied introduction to probability and statistics emphasizes the existence of variation in almost every process, and how the study of probability and statistics helps us understand this variation. Designed for students with a background in calculus, this book continues to reinforce basic mathematical concepts with numerous real-world examples and applications to illustrate the relevance of key concepts. We shall begin with “Distributions of Functions of Random Variables” We will cover Chapters 5 - 9. Some sections will be skipped. We already covered chapters 1-4 in stat 151. However we will review the contents of STAT 151. Chapter Chapter Chapter Chapter 1. 2. 3. 4.
